MLS has an higher SNR than a sweep signal but sweeps in certain conditions are more reliable to use than MLS.

Yes, thanks Andre, that reinforces what I've been told. I guess the key thing not stated in either of those links is whether a swept sine used with a tracking filter has a higher s/n than MLS which, as I understand it, cannot use a tracking filter.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but if MLS is only slightly better than a swept sine wave, but the swept sine can be improved by 60 dB using a tracking filter and MLS cannot, how could MLS still be better? Do you see what I'm getting at?

Understand that I am not arguing with you. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this.
