Hello
I have a turntable with max speed of 45.
An old 78 is dumped into cuebase at 45rpm.....hmmm.
I'm experimenting withpitchshift to correct the speed.
Using best guess on a correct key and shift, neverless only
a guess, sounds OK....but
Can someone t€ell the the exact pitch shift when a 78 record
is played back at 45 so I can know the pitch is as original.
Thank You
David Renaud |

78s are never exactly at 78.. usually playing them a bit slower is the right speed. Best to use a chromatice tuner, and find out what key the music is.
You EQ will be way off the way you are doing it. |

FYI, Remy wrote at some length about this a few weeks ago.
Here's a link. |

Yeah, thanks bent!
The turntables rumble becomes audible. I don't like that but, if that's all you have, here's what you should do.
Record your 78 at 45 utilizing 16 or 24-bit at 44.1kHz. Then you will change your sample rate to 76kHz. Once you have done that, you will then want to transcode or sample rate convert to 44.1kHz. In this sense, what you have just done is record your 78 in high-definition. This is because if your sound card is capable of this, you'll be playing your 45 rpm, 78 at 76kHz sampling rate! That's just a few kilohertz shy of 88.2. So you're actually gleaming more resolution out of the 78 than what actually is on the disk and every little bit helps.
Dealing with the turntable rumble, you'll want to use a sharp low-frequency cut off high pass filter of around 100 hertz. That's all right since there really isn't much low-end on the disk anyhow but whatever there is, will come out a bit thinner if you cut everything off blow 100 hertz. Not a horrible compromise and one that, because I'm such a Libra, I keep vasolating back-and-forth with. But since I can play back at 78, I probably will since I'm lazy and it's easier.
