Hi this is a friend´s band, they play vintage rock. We recorded the whole band live into a Tascam 32 analog tape machine and overdubbed the vocals, with the Tascam 32 as well, check it out and tell me what you think.

The raw tracks sound like they have tons of potential, although I'm not crazy about the mix. The vocals have a muddiness to them that can be overcome with some light shelving eq. |

The drums sound very thin, the mix seems to lean to the left.
The guitar on the right has a good old Gilmour-ish tone, I'm digging that.
The guitar on the left blends into the bass and both compete with each other and try to bury the other instruments, especially the vocals, which themselves have too much low mid in them at the beginning.
The vox: he's too close to the mic when he's not crankin' it out.
When he steps away, it's an improvement.
Roll off some of the low / low mids when he's in close.
The separate tracks themselves sound like they'll be fine with some tweaking. It's not a bad start for a live recording. |

Actually I didn´t want the vocals so muddy but the band asked me to make it sound like that, don´t really know why, I guess they were looking for a Queens of the Stone Age sort of vocal sound. I mastered the track in 7.5ips to make it a bit warmer with less hi end, but that was mostly an experiment. I think I´ll make a master in 15ips and post the results again thanks! |
