Here is a new song i have been working on, called "One Last Thing."
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=797266
I tried increasing vocal levels, as well as stripping down the instrumentation on this one... I tend to keep adding and adding to the groove and then it gets very complicated to try to mix.. Not to mention getting someone to hear the song as i hear it, or even appreciate all the progressing counter melodys and phrases for that matter. Anyway, im going back to the K.I.S.S. philosophy. I just bounced the song to disk once i had the arrangement the way i wanted it. I havent done anything more than mix as i track, so dont tear into her production till i get there. But let me know what you think of the tune, etc.

Well, I'm not sure what exactly you're wanting to hear feedback on, the song or the current state of the "mix." I can tell you that the vocals are distorted with regularity. I don't know where it's clipping in your workflow, but it's definitely coming out hot. I suspect you kept adding vocal tracks until it finally overwhelmed the mix and you didn't compensate for the extra intensity of said tracks.
The distortion of the vocals really ruins the song, so I would make it my priority to get them coming out clean and then resubmit/update the song. I can't really listen to much without getting distracted by the vocals, but it's a catchy tune and ably performed. |

I don't think the vocals sound distorted, I think that the 2 vocalists clash and make them sound bad. One vocalist on this track would definately be better.
As for the track itself I liked it. Sounds similar to Jack Johnson's "Better Together".
Hope this helps;) |

Thanks for the comments,
Discrete,
I asked for feedback on the song itself, --> "But let me know what you think of the tune, etc." Like i said, i understand that are definite technical issues to be ironed out when i mix the song.. But i can tell you there wasnt any clipping in "my workflow." The tracks are loud, it is a sketch, but there is no clipping. I would listen to them on monitors or something with a larger frequency spectrum before telling me they clip.. Anyways, that wasnt what i was looking to hear feedback on, as i said i just wanted to hear what people thought/would suggest, for the tune itself (I.E. Instrumentation, vocal melody, arrangement, etc.)
Tobacco Slammers, Thanks. I will revisit the vocal harmonies, i think they do clash at a few points. Glad you liked it. I was going for a groovy ballad feel, i am happy to hear you say it sounds kinda like jack johnson, that was kind of a vibe that i got too from the song.

First of all, you're right, there's no clipping in the song itself. It's the player on soundclick. I don't know why, but with its volume all the way (default) up it distorts. But I wouldn't tell you that if I wasn't listening to good set of studio monitors. The frequency response on my JBL LSR4328's is pretty good. I've never had an issue with them. I just got a new Mackie Onyx 400F interface that I'm still learning. So, I just learned that control room volume shouldn't be up much passed half-way.
Anyways, I wasn't tryin to roast you or anything like that man. I just played the song like I did with a bunch of others on the forum and it just so happens that yours pegged my interface. Go figure.
So yeah, good tune. I was thinking Jack Johnson all the way and was kinda surprised that I didn't see his name under "Your Influences?". |
