Mix Critique!

There's too much going on in this song for my taste, but the guy that I recorded and mixed it for insists that I keep every aspect of the song. Maybe you guys can give some insight on this mix and give a couple tips on how to make things more coherent and manageable?

Hello, AK! Overall, the song is great and so is the mix. I don't think there is too much going on, and it seems as though you found balance in the mix. The only thing i wasn't stoked about was the sound of the toms. The thundering kick was cool, but maybe a little loud. The vocals on the chorus were a little quiet, maybe due to the drum mixing. All in all, a very solid mix.

Just quickly:

I think overall it is a good mix. Indeed there are a lot of sounds, especially BGs, but you did a good job of panning the BGs to leave a hole in the middle for the lead vox. The EQ on the vox seems to give them a pretty strong resonance at a particular frequency (most noticeable at the beginning) in the midrange (possibly 700-900hz???) which seems to occupy alot of space at times and seems a little intrusive. Perhaps at times a little too sibilant as well, although as the song progresses it seems to work. Perhaps if you bring the level of the drums down just a touch it could give the overall mix a little more room? I think in lieu of the fact that the artist does not wish you to omit any parts, you have done much of what you can do to accommodate that request.

In any case, the tune sounds well done.

The only one thing I would bring up in the mix would be the lead vocals just a bit, i can hear it but barely as to what's being said, other than than rest of the mix is subjective due to differend tastes, I like what I'm hearing though.

I quite like the song itself and I don't think there is too much going on.

Things that stick out to me:

I would say that the vocals need a bit of EQ tweeking, possibly a little less reverb. Also on the vocals when the artist begins to sing "Always" I can hear a sort of croaking noise from his voice. The level of the vocals seem fine to me.

The drums sound a bit muffled, especially the toms.

Other than that it's quite catchy. Originally I thought it was going to sound depressing from the intro but it wasn't.
