you mentioned in your other thread that you didn't like how the snare sounded. Well, good news is it's not any fault of your own. The snare sounds like ass because the drummer plays like ass. Sounds to me like he's playing it tilted on a massive angle, and the stick is probably connecting with it at like a 40 degree angle. That's just bad technique. He gets no "thwak" sound, all just a "tap". He should be playing the snare as flat as possible without causing himself to hit the rim. Even so, a hard hitting drummer (such as one in a metal band) will often do rimshots on near every hit, which maximizes the crack sound and volume. Get him to play properly, and you'll get a better sound.
Other than that, the rest sounded pretty good. Got a couple decent guitarists on your hands, sounds like...song started off kinda slow....intro really didn't do it for me, but it got a lot better as the song progressed. Guitar tones sounded good.
k i'm tired of sayin stuff. other people say some stuff now. |

Thank you!
We are around 20 years old. Lead guitarist is 19. But our equipment .... They have VHT amp prophecy II preamp. I've got an ampeg 810 tech21 rpm aphex 661. Actually leadguitarist build his guitar himself. As far as recording went... It was all pretty much 1 take even doubling leads except for drums. It took us 2 days to record drums. Snare was beat up to death and was miked from the bottom. Bass was di into M-audio Octane. Guitars sm-57 off axis 1 inch or closer to the grill of the Avatar 4x10.
We wanted to recorded a quick demo to find a vocalist. |

The guitar in the break throughout is panned too far right, I wouldn't do more than 50% on that one.
The intro guitar sounds like it was recorded on a 4 track, the mic should have been moved or swapped altogether, the tone's all wrong - what did you use on that track and where was it pointed?
The guitars L/R throughout are decent, could use a little low-mid cut so the bass and kik have some room to breathe.
The drums sound way too distant and mono (almost sounds like the punk tracks I used to do with a pair of old omni EV's) - how did you record those?
They sound like we're listening to them through a hole in the wall - works for punk, not for metal.
Not a bad effort, but because of the drums and the intro guitar, I give this a 6.5.
Listen to more Megadeth and Maiden, compare their mixes to yours, you'll get it. |

We used 9 mics on drums actually. I am not sure if can be accountable for mixing. Cause the policy was everyone says how they want their instrument to sound. What I've noticed is that it is pretty hard to mix your own band... |

I repeat:
Listen to more Megadeth and Maiden, compare their mixes to yours, you'll get it.
The drums need fixin', man!
Nine mics on a kit shouldn't sound so thin, fix it!
I know you can!
