Always wanted to write a tune about mowing the yard. And how all sorts of thaughts go through your head while doing so. This is actually my first attempt at writing a tune. Im playing all instruments and singing. I know I sing bad, but at least Im getting better. Give me your thaughts on sound and mixing. Link to the tune http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=6402999&q=hi
Lyrics Below
As I sit here on my mower
Im all alone with my thaughts
Never know which one to hold to
So many it drives me nuts
I shake my head to clear them all out
But I know I just cant win
I try to focus on my mowing
But those thaughts have crawled back in
Solitude of mowing the yard
Just me and the grass
Its like looking in to my soul
Thank God, just one more pass
I shake my head to clear them all out
But I know I just cant win
I try to focus on my mowing
But those thaughts have crawled back in
As I sit here on my mower
Im all alone with my thaughts
Never know which one to hold to
So many it drives me nuts |

"thoughts", not "thaughts" - and the vocals on "pass" are a hair flat. The guitars sound pretty good though. Kind of a weird combination of genre and lyrics, but the little break with the synths in the middle around 2:30 is pretty cool |

After reading your post I thought I was going to hear something new and I liked the concept you came up with.
Sadly though the song didn't do it for me.
Those lyrics should definately be used for a more happy, pop type track. I think you would be onto a winner doing that.
Production wise, the track sounded fine.
Hope this helps;) |

Wanted a sort of dark sound to it. The boredom of mowing a yard isnt happy time for me. But with that said, an upbeat version might be an option. But alot of landscapers have heard the tune at other forums and say I hit on the nail. But I can vision a happy one too !! Will give it a shot |

I can't listen right now, but I can totally relate to the lyrics.
I mowed lawns from the day I was old enough to apply for a work permit (14 in MA) until I was about 23. I always enjoyed doing it as it seemed like it was 'me time' - no one to bother me and I could reflect on the day, week or whatever was going on.
My friends make fun of me because to this day I'll drive by a house and compliment the lawn before anything else. Well, that is unless there happens to be a sun-bathing beauty on said lawn.
I'll try and take a listen tonight and let you know what I think. |
