These were on the blog of an engineer and it said they used it for a "super warm guitar intro." I'm just really curious and wanting to try this myself. Has anyone tried this? Examples? What are some of your really really really bizarre recording practices?

Either that or it was a "Wonder what I can get the rest of the world to do" kind of deal...

Samples though please! I'm curious...

i generally double every track, and invert the phase on each duplicate track. i love that "silent" sound that's achievable!

also, i made some xlr->optical cables. it makes everything much brighter.

finally (feel free to try this one at home) - one time i made my ex deepthroat a shotgun mic, and then sat her in front of a superloud bass cab. awesome sound!! the body acts as a great bass trap.

Buy the way you want to use the unlubricated ones over microphones and unless you know something about microphones that I don't you really don't need a reservoir end.

I saw this same idea used as a quick hydrophone in a documentary on whales. They said it worked GREAT and they had no problems until the condom broke from being immersed in salt water and the salt water got into their SM-57.

Hey Mr Bethel, speaking of bizarre recordings how'd the "not so silent movie" go?

I like the way the orange tape and cab match. The yellow and orange cables offset them very nicely.

Would it be any different if you used a gortex sock instead of a condom. It'd be a lot less explanation when grandma shows up.

To the best of my knowledge GORTEX lets you sweat but keeps the cold out. Since there are not too many sweaty microphones and since GORTEX is permeable I don't think it would work too well.

If Grandma shows up tell her you are starting a company wrapping bananas and this is the new wrapping. <Today most Grandmas are more savvy than you can believe and probably would not question a condom unless you were wearing it when she walked into the room......<GRIN>

If I wouldn't have known, I would've thought you'd be putting that microphone somewhere else haha.

On the topic, my grandma looks a lot like Sue Johanson, people often ask her for Autographs.[/quote]

I'd hate to think what they're asking her to autograph of theirs!?! :-O

I did chuckle when I saw that it was lubed condom. Imagine the next singer that puts that mic to his/her mouth.
