I have a motu 8 pre and its been working great. it uses firewire. my laptop doesnt have a 6 pin so i run it 6 pin to 4 pin firewire.
its been working fine and still does with my friends laptop [we also use a different cable 6 pin to 6 pin] but now on my laptop i get HUGE amount of clipping no matter what i record or if i even import an audio file into SONAR.
I don't know what to do, maybe somethnig isnt in sync or somethnig. I have no idea. Please help me.
Thank you |

Clipping?
Or buffer underrun? Is your waveform actually a square-looking wave?
If not, it's just a buffer issue or a device conflict (very likely). Laptops have to be optimized for audio including knocking down wifi, network, modem, etc. Also, many to most built-in firewire cards on laptops cause issues by their very nature.
Do a search here on laptop firewire and you'll find all sorts of answers.
