Ok the problem is i have a mac pro 7 gigs of ram and its telling me that it is buffering out on me. if i turn all my plugins on and then try to editon while the song is playing its stops and bring up an error message tell me it buffered out and to turn up my hardware buffer but my buffer is all the way up. CAN anyone tell me why this is happening i have a freaking MAC PRO its shouldnt be buffering out on me should it? Also i installed an additional hard drive in the mac today i dont know know how to move all my audio and sessions over so it will read my sessions from the new hard drive and and run protools and plugins from the original hard drive. Can ANYONE help me please!!!!!!

Drag the Session folders out of the system drive into your new drive.
Then trash the folders on the system drive.

Did you reformat the drive after installing? Needs to be reformatted before using.

More info is needed.... Which Mac Pro, System OS, PT version etc.

PT does not like running Sessions on the system drive... RTFM

Why would you "turn all your plugins on???"

Do you have free downloaded plugins. One single plugin not approved will cause problems in PT, even if you don't have it "turned on"

Turn on, tune in, drop out. (where is Remy?)

Uhhh...you put an SSL channel strip on every single channel? How many channels are we talking about here? After how many does it start to crap out?

Is this PTLE or PT HD?

Its PTLE and you every channel im doing any mixing on i put an SSL channel on it is that not good or something its starts doing it after about 10 or so the thing that gets me is my CPU meter is not even a quater of the way up so i know i have plenty of computer power and my buffer is all the way up at 1024 it just dosnt make sense to me.

What you essentially did, was copy the files.
You are still accessing the files from the system drive. You need to remove the session files from the system drive, and have Protools access the files from the second drive.
You should also check the processor settings in Protools.

What Cucco said, how many tracks, and how many instances of SSL strips are you really running??
I would assume its LE.

Why in God's name would you ever need 10 or more instantiations of SSL channel strip on your mix? Okay...a very deep mix (64 tracks or so) might call for that many, but only after things have been properly bussed and auxed.

i use it for each track kick, snare, toms overheads guitars and so forth is that not the proper way to do it i usually run at least 30 tracks in each mix and sometimes up to 48 i run auxs and buses but it sounds better to have it for each individual track.

No...that's not typically the way to do it.

Yes, if you have an SSL 9000 and you want to use your EQs, go for it.

However, overuse of EQs (which cause phasing issues, pre-ringing, post-ringing, add distortion and noise in some cases, etc.) Compression (which is overused and used improperly by most people anyway) and other effects is the easiest and quickest way to flatten an otherwise good mix.

Only use EQ when it's absolutely necessary. I can't think of a time in recent history where I've used more than a single or stereo channel of EQ on drums (certainly not one for snare, one for each tom, one for kick, high hats...etc.) (Which, you don't want to get me started on over-mic'ing drum kits here either...)

If you can't get the sound you want using the microphone and its placement, go out and move the mic. Don't try to fix it with an EQ.

Sorry - rant over. Smile

CPU and memory buffers are two different things.

I don't imagine 10 instantiations of a plug in would cause this - it's just a pet peeve of mine to see folks load each track with a track plug - it's superfluous and causes far more damage than good.

It is possible that your plug-ins are over-running your memory buffers - even at 1024 samples. The Waves plug-ins are notoriously memory hogs and will eat up a good portion of your system's resources. Again, I doubt it with only 10 open.

Are you running at 44.1 or 88.2 or 96?

I recommend upgrade from PTLE 7.3 to 7.3.1 it's free for you.
You didn't say what operating system you are on. OS 10 WHAT?
Go into you playback setup in PT and check how many processors are used,
people saying to use 2 and set them for about 85%.
Which Waveshell are you using? There is a new waveshell 5.9.7 it's very good.

If you are already using the 5.9.7 Waveshell you should upgrade to PTLE 7.3.1 Waves claiming no support for PTLE 7.3 with 5.9.7.
