I had a hard time mixing all those things in the endding of this song. Does anyone have any suggestions?. I'm wondering if I could have made room with eq better. I don't have much experience with that.

This is a cover of Yael Naim's New Soul(imac AirBook commercial).

Also, it rained so much during the sessions (my studio is not sound proof) I decided to use it in the song.

Thanks in advance.

Ummmm......It has been a rare occurrence here at Recording.org that I have been asked to review someone's music and engineering that meets my standards of quality. Very rare indeed.

If this is what happens to people who live in Prairie "Dog" Grove, Arkansas, I'm moving there! You don't need my help. You are obviously incredibly bored out of your mind and have nothing better to do with your time at 45 years of age than to write these heavily laden melodious covers & songs, clad with incredible hooks & George Martinesque orchestral arrangements. I don't care if your NEW SOUL studied at Paul McCartney University. Because NO ONE who is this CLUMSY that includes natural sounds of thunderstorms & blackbirds chirping in this Darwinian organic manner of Geoffrey Emmerick engineering expertise and Sir George style arranging could possibly LOVE SONG & music enough WHEN you cap things off with such a funky finish! I mean, you must really get off taking us all out for a ride with such a consistent batch of quality, first rate entertainment?!

And you want a critique??!! OK then....

I don't think that your Neve console sounding Mackie mixer generally can cut it with an AIR head like myself? But who knew anybody on Recording.org could do this as good, as you have? So your parents thought you were nuts wanting to major in music in college? They were right. Simply because, Sir George has retired. Where were you when we needed you?

What I'm really trying to say here in this convoluted manner (so there are no questions about this review) is I WAS SIMPLY BLOWN AWAY, JAW-DROPPING DUMBFOUNDED, HAD TO LISTEN TO ALL OF YOUR SONGS IN THEIR ENTIRETY AND THEN LISTEN AGAIN AND AGAIN AND THEN AGAIN, AGAIN! PROBLEMS MIXING THINGS TOGETHER AT THE END??? I DON'T THINK SO! Reverse backwards reverb? Not for beginners! OMG! WTF! (And I thought I was good?)

We all have to know more about what you've done here, your string arrangements, sample libraries and how you went about it because, IT IS SO GOOD!

I don't like people who are this good because they make us all look bad.

Simply stupid!
Ms. Remy Ann David

(This is just unreel quality! You've all got to listen to this!)

Great sounding track. Loved the thunder. I would've sworn it's intentional.

Edit: You are pulling our leg here though right? I mean that sounds awesome. The strings sound great. Those are samples?

Edit again: Now if only I would read. I see that you mentioned a string quartet. Nicely done.

If someone lives close to Remy, please go check on her! She needs help. I hope she's ok.

Hueseph,

Concerning the thunder. In a 3 day period I couldn't get a single track recorded without some rain in the background. I decided I could keep the tracks if I masked the low quality rain sound with a better rain sound. So, I cracked the door, put the mike up to the crack, cranked up the input and recorded 2 takes of the weather all the way through the song. All the rain and thunder you hear happens in real time in those takes, however I did mix it in and out to suit the song. I did the same a week later with the birds but I cut them up and pasted them in where appropriate.

The strings are Logic samples. I used the term string quartet because that's what I was writing for(double bass, cello, viola, violin).

Thanks for the compliments,

Johnny
