I record electric guitar plus amp with a 57, an electric bass through a di, and vocals with a 58. All recordings done in a living room that sounds good, a very woody, rich sound that resonates well with the singing and guitar.
Let's say I want to spend another 300 to 500.
Here's my chain:
1. SM57/SM58
soundcraft compact mixer
M-Audio Delta 1010
No name reciever
KRK ST-6 Monitor
2. Bass
Korg Toneworks AX10A Amp Modeler
M-Audio Delta 1010
No name reciever
KRK ST-6 Monitor
How could I improve my signal chain?
Any set up improvements?
I want to practice recording myself so I can record others well.
Oh, and to make good music -Record the love baby, RTL. |

Can you drop the Soundcraft or do you need it for preamps or monitoring or something?
Anything nonessential should really go. |

Yeah, I need the pre-amp. Nothing else really boosts the gain as much, plus eq controls. If I had to guess, I would think I should invest in pre-amps. I'm more concerned about what other people have done that works, and where they've invested the most to improve their recordings. If someone could suggest a change in preamps under a grand, that would help. |
