Hi Everyone.
It's been awhile since I recorded anything new as I've been busy constructing a new control room and drum room.
If anyone is so inclined, please feel free to comment on the technical aspects of the recording and mixing of this song. It's just something thrown together from drum tracks I recorded to set levels, so the composition and performance aren't of any concern to me.
Please compare it to the other mixes on my SC page, and see if you think the new acoustic treatments in the CR and drum room have made a positive difference. I think they have, but it's always nice to have your opinions validated by others.

Thanks. |

Bahhhhh just crashed Firefox. Something about the new version and flash plugins, I never get audio and the browser locks up. The only problem with beta software. When I get back to Windows I'll try again. |

I thought your songs and engineering sounded heavenly. Good solid lovely recording without a whole bunch of expensive boutiquey equipment. Bravo! Of course I get the impression that doesn't mean much coming from myself, since I'm such an immoral slob?
New room versus old room? Not having been in your house (of worship?) Or home? My only comments would be that your song taking that "soft walk" or something like that had an element of more room ambience than your first song example of 15 of some Redman's songs? Which I like more than the more muted tonality of the 15 Redman's songs. But that's just me. I don't like dead sounding drums. I like live sounding drums. If your music is there to honor the great Holy Spirit, I would want more life in the sound. More ambience. More space. Not more mutation of the drums sound and I don't mean mutation as in screwed up. It's just too muted. Too dead. Too many heavy blankets. But then I'm weird. When I'm in church and they say "let's pray". Everybody looks down. Whereas, I look up to the heavens. Simply because I want somebody up there to hear me not down there. Think about that. Not sure why everybody looks down? In respect? In respect of what? The devil? He is where your looking. So don't look there. But then Sigma sound studios put their faders in backwards. Maybe I'm the same?
I think it's noble that you have devoted your life to Christian pop music. Second chance? You've only had two? I count my blessings daily every day that I open my eyes. My former boss Tim Russert isn't as lucky as you or I. Just the fact that I can come up with off-the-wall commentary, is by the grace of God, since I nearly died of a brain condition 2 1/2 years ago. So I've had an epiphany also with my second, third, fourth & probably more, chances of life. I really don't even judge others engineering. Although I must admit, I'm not a big fan of death metal or other forms of hate oriented nonart music. If you can call some of that stuff music. Music is supposed to soothe the savage beast. Not get it all nasty and gnarly. Your music is blessed with kindness. Thank you. I believe all music is created with God's blessings. Even death metal. For those who like living in the basement.
Penthouse for me in a few more years!

Death metal, lol. Dynamics, lol.
Listening now...
Now, the drums, on say, Casting Crowns tracks are generally far back. This isn't always a good thing - the drums in your track are prominent but not overbearing, except the kick to me seems more rock style, rather than a laid back track. (NB: wearing cans).
But that's not the type of comment you're looking for
TBH I can't hear any echo or ambience (save for a few bits on the guitar, e.g. at the end) that sounds out of place.
Listening to Broken and Hurt (non-concert version) there is a definite difference. The drums seem ringy for a start. The improvement seems incredible.
Lord knows my ears are dodgy though. I mean, I think PG58s and onboard sound is decent... |

Remy,
You are full of surprises. I think it's wonderful that God has blessed you with many 2nd chances. In my case, I always fail to count all the 2nd, 3rd,4th...chances He gave me when i was a sot, and just give Him credit for the big one - sobriety.

It means quite a lot. I have a great deal of respect for the opinions of one who has earned her knowledge thru years of hard work. I just don't understand why you can be so proud of yourself in your worklife and be self-depracating (even in jest)about your personal life.

I see what you mean. With the SC compression, the drums on 15 Matt whatevers sound very muted. Nothing at all like in my CR on the ST6's.

+1,+2, and +3
I can repost the song in .wav file on my work site if you'd like.
thanks for your comments, and again, I apologise for my rude remark.
Grace & Peace |

Codemonkey,
On this track, I was looking for a very "we're in the room with the band " type of sound ala Built to Spill, Dianogah, and others in that post-punk genre.
gotta run now, ( i have to get up early to teach pre-teens how to hit golf balls) but thanks for all your comments, folks.
g'nite.
Peace & Grace, |
