I have been building computers for about 6 years now, usually I am lucky enough to have them run like champs everytime.
I have a freind thaT OWNS A STUDIO HERE AND i BUILT A high end pc for around 3500, it has the best in hardware, memory of 4 bgs, etc... all things that Personus requires is way below this Pc's specs..
we have talke dto Tech dept. numerous times and they say the problem must be in the firewire connection.
Thing is this software ran for more than a year flawlessly, they told us to "update" the software etc, now the setting will not work, you start a recording or other with Cubase and make changes to the settings, when you restart the software all the default settings are back!
Just seems that it dosent "sync" and keep my settings,.
Any one have this problem and know how to solve it maybe, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your time

make sure you have a texas instruments chipset, or via I believe. I am positive about texas instruments however. The Presonus products especially seem to be touchy. I have gone through 2 FP10s a firestudio, and they were touchy until I got a PCI card with a TI chipset. Usually any onboard coming from your mobo is going to be cheap stuff.
Taking a long shot here just to add something, check to make sure there is no difference in the cord being firewire 800 vs. firewire 400, although they are supposed to be compatible with each other. |

I think you just need to roll back your drivers. Get whoever "they" are that made you "update" and ask them to help you un-update. |

Downward compatible, 800 is downward compatible with 400. |

"Backward compatible", I believe
Software updates are good in non-production environments, or if it professes to fix some problem you have.
Right now I'm on Ubuntu 8.04 which has had daily patches for a week now as it's just out, browsing in Firefox beta 3.
But what do I do with linux? I surf the web, mess around with some files. Did a bit of web dev yesterday. Nothing that would prevent me getting my job done (since I don't have a job ) |

Another term for backward compatible is downward compatible. But thanks for keeping an eye on me.
edit: simply because 800 can do the 400 but 400 can only do 400 of the 800...dig? |

800 can do the 400 but 400 can only do 400 of the 800, so the 400 left over from the 800 thats not being sent by the 400 doing only 400 of the 800 overflows into the void... Fill? |

Drum fill. Landfill?
The extra 400 is marketing hype.
Also, downwards compatible being multinamed just seems backwards to me. |
