The Lighter Note:
I'm feeling pretty good right now. Band rehearsal tonight was fantastic and things are really coming together for a 50s, 60s, 70s night we have planned for about 3 weeks from now. Tonight we decided the set list + I recorded over 1h:40 of material which unfortunately is still on the PC.
The Rant:
I found out that Hong Kong wired up the mixer wrong. Apparently, to activate phantom power you reach to the back of the desk and move a small switch to "on" on a per channel basis. There is also a switch on top which activates phantom power on all channels - according to the manual.
However, you *actually* need to turn on the switch to enable phantom power, then turn it on per-channel using the other switches on the back.
The Request:
Does anyone have experience with Realtek audio and ASIO4ALL ? I'm having trouble (sounds like a chorus effect) when using ASIO drivers to output and MME to input. I can't get ASIO4ALL to show the correct input so I need to use MME. Unfortunately the damn thing sounds off. The output isn't the problem though - prerecorded material sounds fine when playing back. Just the input.
I know it's not the input signal as well - I've checked using the Windows mixer (and disabled the playback of Line In afterward).
Software: XP, Kristal (ASIO seems a bit buggy with this though, can't find much with Yahoo).
Hardware: Realtek HD Audio (integrated - yes, I know), and a Stylophone.
I do have a PCI soundcard I could use which I had working with ASIO. Didn't really want to put it back in though. |

AAAAHHHHHH!!
That thing is going to just keep giving you head aches like this, and later you will listen to these recording and wish you used a real audio interface.
In the ASIO4ALL driver did you enter Advanced mode, click on the "+" and disable the MME devices and just leave the regular In and Out drivers? That is the most common problem with ASIO4ALL.

I agree. It sounds like you have both the ASIO input going to the monitor as well as monitoring on the sound card. Try muting the line in on your windows mixer. |

"Does the recorded input, playback with the chours effect?"
No.
"Try muting the line in on your windows mixer."
It's muted. It happens either way and is worse with the line in active.
"In the ASIO4ALL driver did you enter Advanced mode yadda yadda"
Yes.
But, I *can't* get the ASIO4ALL to disable the "Digital In" which doesnt even exist and Kristal won't see past it. It keeps coming back, no matter how many times I disable it.
This means I'm stuck with a MME input + ASIO output. Somehow it's almost realtime anyway.
Makes sense that both are being input...
TBH I didn't think anyone on here would know anything about ASIO4ALL, thanks guys.
This isn't so much for recording, nor is it critical, but I'm just learning my way around effects. Reverb, Chorus (the irony), etc.
Also I love the sound of the stylophone. Especially after I gated the buzzing. |
