hey,
I'm 15 years old and I'm starting to get into recording my music. Could someone help me make my song "Sirius and Your Perfect Tube" sound less bad?
It's the first one on there

The only thing I can hear making it sound bad is what myspace does to music. Crush factor.
You would fit in any drum circle I've been too. |

Well, Alex, I think for a 15-year-old you are a accomplished artist.
Your recording ain't bad. Nice ambient feel on the guitar & bass.
Singing is tough at your age because your voice has not fully matured. Give it another year.
Now to make your drums sound better. Obviously, you have toms split far left & far right. I can hear them but they are not sitting well with the rest of the kit. The bass drum & snare drum should be more prominent than the toms. The effect is just too plain wide to make sense. Your bass drum & snare drum should be recorded with an SM 57 or SM 58. Both are the same but the 58 has the extra pop proof ball. So those can be used interchangeably. In the bass drum track, invert the phase. This will cause certain phase cancellations that when combined with the other drum microphones will tighten up the sound of the entire kit. You could also had some modest compression/limiting to the bass & snare drum, in software. Not too much. Just a little. And bring those toms in a little so it is more of a left-center/right-center kind of thing. Make sure the bass guitar sits with the bass drum. They should almost be as one. Sort of like a Star Trek episode.
Best results will have very little equalization and only maybe some modest bell shaped curve, 250 hertz cut from the bass drum and maybe even the toms. But that can be easily overdone so not much more than -6 DB.
Can't wait to hear the remix
