Hey
I have a converted loft which i am lookin at turning into a home studio for me and my band to record in. The loft is already converted with a big and a smaller room both are floating floors so they are decoupled from the truss cords below. Due to the ceilings being quite low i think i will need to look at treating the room but this is something ive never dealt with before so any advice would be great here.... Thanks.
My aim is to create a control room and a sort of live room where i will put drums and amps and will hopefully be able to do vocal work in there.
One thing i was wondering is should i consider blocking off the stairs to the room below with a door or something?
Ive attached a picture of my loft space below.
Let me know if any more information is required.... Thanks!
Any advice would be greatly apreciated!!!!!!
Thanks
Jamie

Why do people ask for advice and then try to cramp yer neck with sideways scrolling? Why I ask you?
What is it on this page: http://recording.org/ftopict-36851.html : that people just do not like?
I don't get it...I wanna know?
Oh, welcome to RO boss, it can be a pleasant stay if you want it that way |

More info than you'll want to read right here:
Acoustics FAQ
The short answer is low ceilings need absorption. But you also need bass traps and other absorption on the walls.

Hey,
Sorry Space, ill start over...
The room in which i am looking to converting into my home studio is a converted loft (attic). i am looking at creating a place where me and my band can rehearse and record in our own time. I am looking at making the larger room a control room and the smaller some sort of live room/iso room just to put the amps and drums. I use a electric drum kit so there is no issue with noise there apart from needing some sort of mat to stop vibrations going through the floor.
What i am looking to record mainly will be metal so this will be mainly Guitars, Drums and vocals, Like i said above the drums are electronic so there isn't really a sound issue there, but my guitars and vocals will be an issue so in that case i will need to look at isolating the smaller room somehow.
Thanks for the link Ethan!!
I will try and get a drawing up with dimensions but to give you an idea of what im working with here are a couple of quick reference dimensions:
Control Room:
Height = 6' 10''
Width = 9' 7''
Length = 10' 9''
Live/ISO Room
Height = 6' 8''
Width = 9' 7''
Length = 5' 7''
Let me know if you need any more information i am pretty new to the whole recording world...
Cheers

That's way too small for good sound. Forget the idea of two rooms and just have one room twice as large.
