I just put down the intro to a song that I am writing, will get around to the rest later. But after cleaning up the tracks I always get the feeling that I do too much. Trying to find that balance of cutting the noises and leaving the good tone is leaving me guessing.
From listening to both the source tracks and the cleaned EQ'd tracks, can you let me know how I'm doing? You know, like did I fix the problems sufficiently, did I cut too much of the usable tone. This is a pretty good example because there was a lot of noise in the source tracks which gave my EQ finger a good workout later.

Im using my personal pc headphones (Sony MDR-150) which I hate. But the eq'd is so much better. The source sounded like it was recorded way too hot. What levels are you working at ? |

Do you mean SPL or input level? SPL I'm not too sure. Was using clean channel gain of about 2 or 3 and volume of about 5 I think. Input level was peaking around -13dB across the board.
That sound you hear is amp buzz, not clipping lol. I tried my best to EQ it out surgically without affecting the tone too much. |

I'm hearing some sort of buzzing, is it my headphones? the EQ'd one definitely sounds better but there isn't much to say without a full mix |

Yeah, I must have edited my last post after you started to respond. It's amp buzz, I'm pretty sure I have a blown speaker, or a torn voice coil or something? Life's full of little buzzes. |

How do you think I can get the second guitar part to harmonize better with the first one? As it is now I feel like they are fighting. |

this is something i learned from john mayer about guitarmony (guitar harmony)..always make guitar 2 slightly quieter than guitar 1 (or your lead guitar) that way they wont fight 4 attention and the listeners can listen to the lead and have the harmony not shredding their ears |
