Wolfgang, I can't quite understand you, can you explain this differently?

Hello everybody
I need a MAC guru.
My problem is that I have all together 5 disks on my MAC: 1 system disk and 4 audiodisks which are labeled with Macintosh and Disk 1 to 4. No matter how I place the icons on my window it will always start with Macintosh (OK), disk 2, 1, 4, 3. Right now no one could give me an answer why it is so and what you can do against it. Is there a little programme which can solve this problem and is it working with PT. Even in PT I have this mixed order.
Thanks Wolfgang

Okay new try.
My internal IDE HD is named as usual Macintosh. My audio disks are named Disk 1 to 4 ( equally to the SCSI ID`s ). If I place Macintosh at the right top of my window (monitor screen) set disk 1 right below, disk 2 right below and so on, the next time I`m starting the MAC it looks like this: right on top Macintosh (OK) then below Disk 2 then Disk 1 then Disk 4 and the last is Disk 3. So my whole order how I placed the disks on the desktop is mixed. But the bigger problem is that even in PT the window which shows you the rest recording time take the wrong order and shows me Disk 2,1,4,3.
I hope this helps.

Your system drive will always stay on top. then a to z follows. I wasn't aware of numeric order though. You may need to put a letter in front of the other drives. If this is the fix, make sure you back up and unauthorize any drives/disks you rename. The system will look for the old drive names.
I hope this helps but for some reason I think you must know this. Let me know Wolfgang.

Hello Bigtree
I formated 2 of my disks and named the first one AAA and the second one BBB.
Result: on the MAC desktop it seems to work. First Macintosh then AAA BBB disk 4 disk 3, but in PT it`s still BBB AAA disk 4 disk 3 . What`s the fix in PT ?

Wolfgang,
sorry to take so long to respond, just got back from holidays.
Not sure there Wolfgang, things seem to work with a-z format. The disk with your current system software always comes on top.
Rebuild your desktop but other than that I'm not sure. A good question for mac.
Let us know here when you find the fix.

Wolf,
I don't have a fix for this, and would be interested to know if there even is one. My drives do the same thing. It is a little annoying.
However I am curious - is this really hindering your work in any way, or just a little pet-peeve thing? You make it sound like your studio is ground to a halt because of this.
Relax

the order of mac hds has nothing to do with their names on my 9.04 G4.
i found a little script called ReorderDiskIcons that i place in the "launch at startup" folder. and it does what it says! it re-places from the top the disks in the order of mounting.
contact me if u want me to sent it to u (and forgive my english)

I may be missing something here so this may be a simplistic answer. On a Mac, the icons show up on the desktop by various parameters. If you want them to be by Name then go to the desktop menubar, open up the "View" menu, then "View Options", and select the parameters you want the icon order on the desktop. If you select Name then things like Harddrive 1, Harddrive 2, etc., or AAA, BBB, etc., or "A Peak", "B Spark", etc., will appear in those orders on the desktop.
Hope this helps.
