New mix, edited lyric, dried up vocals, tamed fill guitar. Is it better?
Thanks,
Mark

Make my bed.
This is more precision..and more definition.
Don't be scared of the ride cymble. It needs to be within 3 dB of that snare. Overall sounds is heavy from 150HZ to 1.5K...and the top during loud passeages is down quite a bit. Chmaber on the vox was not bad..especially at this level. Top can sizzle more..but really it is a whole 'lot better for mastering purposes ..if you don't mind the M.E. injecting some 2 bus verb at certain frequencies.
I will say even with the clarity here..the other one vibes more..it was looser and more energetic.
Great to have 2 angles. In mastering both could be used at once..best of both.
Cool!!!! |

Bill, thanks very much. I didn't realize that you could use more than one when mastering. That's very cool.
Recording and mixing this using the 1180 presents one particular problem...the drums are all on one track, so whatever is done to the kick is also done to the ride, etc.
I think Discretedrums is coming out with loopable samples that could be put on separate tracks, eq'ed, then mixed down to one track.
I hear what you're saying about the first mix as far as better feel, I get that too. But I had the vocals so damn wet that they got lost.
Sounds like it's time to split the difference.
Gonna let this one sleep for a while and start on something else, hoping to improve with each effort.
Thanks for all your help. :tu:

In Digital mastering, you can create as many 2 track files as you want..up to 128 tracks easy..but really..that is overkill ..pardon the expression.."mustard on your ice cream".
I have started combining the two tracks (2X2) on a minimalist level with good results. I simply take the best of one, best of the other, and paste it.
Problems could happen if the meter was not exact (separate takes) but no so here.
I will get a sample back to you asaic (as soon as I can)
PS..12 hour day job (to support the heavy bills) and 6 to 8 hrs/ in the studio are taking it's toll.
Also I want to apologize if I came off as an "asshole" to folks on the Mr. Roberts post..but really..how can someone really say no..if they have not seen from my perspective.
Good God..that is like telling BigTree and Stephen Paul..they can't do this or that.
My goodness sakes.
Goodness gracious.....!! |

Schedual:
Wake at 445AM. Walk the Dog, shower, read paper, pop up on web to see and read email, listen to 30 mins music, day job (11 hrs) home, bath, emails, web, mastering projects from US mail and UPS, evaluate equipment review materials, 12 midnight, watch Star trek Voug.. Take Dog out again/ 4th time, between this, driving in big traffic, eating, housework and the like. It is not easy..but rewarding! Then I look at P&L which needs improving! |
