I d-loaded your tunes.
I had before but not on this system. Very tasty.
As I said before..I hear the MP"free" artifacts only..and a shade of glass over the sound (MP again) but the soul is there. Personally more black background to the sound would make it appear more "live". I wish I were there and you had everyone set up and did a basic 2 track of it. From about 4 feet ave. Stephen, do one of these when you get a chance and see what you have!
I am also an advocate of 2 tracking (sometimes 3) every sound...or all the sounds. I even use 4/5 for rear fill with mics at a distance pointing toward harder surfaces. Lots of experiments out there!
Great stuff! "you passed the audition" in British accent (LOL)
Cool.
Go to his site and be inspired! The music and performances (and Mics) are top notch |

Thanks Bill...
Obviously there are some severe limitations to the MP3 process especially at 128K... though I still get a lot of email asking what I did to make them sound as good as they do!
If you'd like to really hear something, let me know if you'd like some CDs...
And of course, if you're ever in LA, let me know, and I'll set up a listening session for you right off the analog master 2 tracks.
I promise those are fun!
PS Remember this was all recorded on:
Master Multi:
15 IPS Ampex 499 at +5 Dolby 'S'
1" 24 track Fostex G24S
Mixes:
30 IPS Ampex 499 at +6 No NR
1/4" Studer A810
Console: Allen+Heath CMC32
Heavily modified with Raytheon 5532s
and Jensen 990c in the combining amps
Imagine what I can do with a real set up! Part of the recordings I'm going to do with Wendy will be done at various rooms I helped build and design here in LA... and maybe a few in Nahville where she still lives for the moment. |
