I'd love for some people to check out my tunes and give me some critiques. I'm very new to all this stuff. Here it is. - http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/294/wormhelmet.html - fire away. Honesty is the most productive policy. Smile

Soundsurfr, seems like you got some good clean tracks down, and have a good idea where you want your mix to go... but you need to work on putting things in perspective.

Here's a quick tip... when you have 2 featured instruments playing at the same time and in relatively same frequency range... neither one is featured anymore. You can't put every instrument in the mix "in your face" at the same time. Pull something back, use ambient effects (delay, reverb, eq) and give everything it's own clearly defined space.

Hope that helps. Smile

Carmen's song:
copy and paste this in:

http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=ccocchiaro&templatefn=FileSh aring1.html&xmlfn=TKDocument.1.xml&sitefn=RootSite.xml&aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en

Not bad Carmen. It's overall a good mix except for 2 things:
bass is slightly muddy
I can't hear enough high hat
The crash cymbals are much louder than the high hat too. I think once you get real drums recorded, this will sound great. The guitars and vox sit perfect too. It didn't sound like you panned the backup vox at all. Might be something to try.

Now here's my latest:
http://www.seasidelounge.com/joanne2.mp3
This is the first band I ever recorded in my studio. PLEASE, do not pay attention to the vocals. You'll know what I mean Smile
It was tracked live in my room and then we redid the 2 guitar parts because a bit too much drum bleed came through on the acoustic mic. I used a 414EB on guitar and the same on female vocals and a Studio Projects C1 and Sennheiser 421 on the male's. I realize now the female vocals are too low in the mix but otherwise I'm happy with it...

Honestly, this isn't my cup o tea, but here goes...

The drums sound open and natural, as do the other acoustic instruments. The female vocals sound way overcompressed for the style to me.

Looking for feed back....

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bobmuskus

Everything was recorded, edited, mixed and mastered on a PC with no outboard equipment. Used Nuendo for a sequencer and a Terratec EWS-88MT audio card. Used Sound Forge to master. Drums went into a Mackie 1604 for mic pres then into the Terratec....NO LIMITERS...BIG MISTAKE...WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. Sorry for the shouting but, since I am the drummer too, I am not very happy with the low drum signal..but...I am planning on getting a Presonus Digimax and another Terratec card, the EWS 88D. This way all 8 drum mics will come out of the presonus using lightpipe and into the Terratec EWS 88D. I will also be correcting some other drum mic problems such as leakage and overhead imaging on the next tune. The bass guitar went direct s/pdif into the Terratec from a Bass Pod. The guitars also went direct s/pdif into the Teratec.

My first attempt. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Y2KPM,
Not bad at all for a first attempt. Here's what I think:
the right guitar sounds like it has less of a lead roll and I think it would help to use a bit less reverb on it. I personally would like less reverb on all the guitars. They sound very separate fromt the rest of the mix. The drums are definately lacking especially for this type of music. When the double bass drum comes in, it's a bit overpowering. Overall though, the mix itself is good as far as volume levels. I want more cybals though. More ride and crash. Good luck!
