When I receive an MP3 that needs editing, I go the long way around and real time play it back to Sound Forge 4.5 and edit it there, and reformat it back to MP3. I have also converted MP3 to Wav. and then opened the file and edited.
Let's share different systems (provide links) of the tools you enjoy for MP3> wav.<editing>wav.<MP3.
I really would love to see some alternative software choices.
What do you use??

the following are FREE apps:
for CD extraction, I use CD DAE. simple, easy, works great and FAST.
for encoding/decoding, Electronic Cosmo's MPEG Suite. again, simple, easy, flexible, works fast!
these two free programs are what I use time and time again, because I don't need any 'make your computer a jukebox' crap that has a bunch of silly features I don't need. I use them practically every day and haven't had any problems whatsoever.
editing? well it needs to be converted to wav first, then it gets chopped up in Cool Edit Pro (not free). =D

I agree! Sonic Foundry has some powerful software. I have not "upgraded" to 5.0 yet..still using 4.5
Playcenter 2 by Creative has an excellent encoder, decoder but since my "computer crash" the site has rejected downloads of it.
Perhaps it will come back up.

I'm quite fond of Wavelab for editing and batch encoding and MP3 decoding/encoding. I like it's fast real time processing and fast encoding.
I havent used Sound Forge in a couple of years since Wavelab 3.0 came out.
I also like to use Audio Catalyst from Xing for taking a whole album and ripping it to MP3's

Anyone have any comments / experience with directly editing MP3's in Sound Forge 5.0? I have found that since I made the upgrade, I can now directly work on and save in MP3 format. I don't notice any loss of sound quality doing this, and it save a BUNCH of time not having to convert back and forth between MP3 and WAV for editing.

O.k. Jeremiah, I don't use it yet. Sell me.
I'm new and can use any good and intuitive tool for this purpose.

I also convert all commercials I do like that and ul them to the radio stations. Seems to work perfectly. You can test the quality loss factor like this: Open an 1.mp3 save it to 2.mp3 now open 2.mp3 and save it to 1.mp3 and so on to see how many times you can get away with Smile .
Keijo
