Hi Bill,& Chris;
You CAN get superb video on the net, the only problem is the download time. My Boss was taken aback the other day by a couple of vendors sporting an online network. I won't get specific, but while my Boss was being distracted, one of the vendors slipped to his site, and began to download as much as he could while the others kept the meeting going, until there was enough, including buffer, for maybe a minute of high res video, took about 30 minutes on a network, about a steady 24kbs (conservative estimate). It looked excellent in the video box. I have worked with full T-1, dedicated, and fiber, which the fiber was 16 channels modulated, broadcast quality. Even with the full T-1, there is not enough to stream video with the quality we have come to know. So, until everyone is willing to wait for 3 or 4 hours of download time, and has the drive space, for an 8 to 10 minute piece of video, good enough to play on their 27" TV, not much is really happening there.
Incidentally,(a) the vendors never mentioned the download time of their product. (b) never mentioned the loss of resolution to standard TV sizes. So be carefull out there. They have a lot invested, and want you to pay for it.

P.S Chris, I see you are enjoying some of Bill's excellent Mp3's. Internet audio at it's finest!! |
