Here's my first mix with my new Paradigm monitors! After using my POS JBLs, this mix was sooo much easier to do, but I'm still getting used to the speakers. (no HUGE midrange spike, wierd...) This is a local band that I'm in the middle of recording called "Five Minute Ride." Anyway, I would really appreciate some feedback on the mix in general, this is my first paying recording job, although the mixing is free 'casue I'm still learning.
Thanks a lot!
Ian

Cool tune! Nice snare sound. Level was kind of low..but it is a cool track. A shade of de-essing would nbe nice on the vox. IT will fatten up with some mastering...the balance is there...lack of deep bass is not really an issue..it just needs to be fattened some. Great work!!!! |

Bill,
Thanks a lot for checking the track out. I have a couple more questions:
What do you think about the amount of 'verb used? Too wet? Could you elaborate a little more about the bass content of the track? I've never had anything mastered before, so I'm reall interested in how much mastering really affects the mix. I will try the deesser on the vocals.
Thanks again!
Ian
Edit:
Bill (and others), I reposted the track after a little remixing. (De-essing, removing 'verb, and other little stuff). I changed the snare a little/ Bill, do you think the old "cleaner" snare or the new "less polite" snare fit the song better?? Thanks,
Ian |

Ok,
This time I really changed it. I've toned down on pretty much all the 'verb except snare and toms, as well as some diffused delay on the guitars to thicken them up. I took the vocals out, makes it a little easier to critique the rest of the mix, I'll drop the vocals on top later.
So, another round of constructive criticism?? All thoughts and comments welcome. Bill any more advice before I should take it to get mastered?
