An earlier post got me & many others excited about the newly released Tascam FW1884. The Tascam guy posted the entire spec sheet and everybody drooled.
I've checked dealers and they have never heard of it. I've emailed Tascam (three times) and gotten no response--although it is listed on their website.
Does anybody know anything about it? Really.
Are there any "objective" reviews? Is anybody selling it? how much? Has anybody actually used it? It was supposed to be released around April 6. I expected to see lots of posts about it, but can find nothing. Does anybody have any info?
TIA

The only word so far is...SOON!
That's as much as I can get out of Tascam as well! Believe me, I have connections over there too and they're being super secretive about it so far! Bummer! lol
I'm definitely going to check that bad boy out! Only for a control surface though. I think it would be a great companion to my US428 that I have! Being that Nuendo supports multiple controllers I can do tons of things with both of em!

I haven't seen any mention of it, but I wonder if it supports mLan?
 |

no mLan, which is a very good thing I tell you!!
mLan SUCKS!! Very high latency and only works on a Mac, reasonably well, about 20ms latency TOPS!!
Gross ain't it?!!!

That's true opus but I think 1394b/firewire800 will change the landscape. |

Yes 1394b will change things...but it won't help Yamaha!! lol
in fact, speaking of 1394b....Orange Micro is shipping PCI 1394b FireWire cards in May!!!
Yeehaw! I'm upgrading my FireWire network to that so I can run longer cables without repeaters!!!
Plus higher transfer speeds!!

I use the US-428 and can say it is a real solid in terms of dependabuility. As well as all other Tascam products I've owned or used over the years. The FX1884 is definatly something I will watch closly. |
