I saw an article on "how to build a bass trap" from the designer of "Real Traps" and was wondering what order the deep bass trap materials go in... Fiberglass behind plywood or vise-versa? Are the 2X2's mounted within the boxed frame like studs? Spacing?

Wil,

Is the drawing on my site not clear? If you saw the plans from my bass traps article a while ago, go back and view/print them again. A few weeks ago I scanned the plan drawing again, and it's now clearer than originally.

If you already have the current drawing and still have questions, let me know.

Hi Ethan, is there a link to DIY plans for your bass traps? I've not come across anything yet in my search of this site.

Thanks! Now if I could locate some of this 703 ridgid fiberglass in Sandiego. I called the Owens Corning folks ans the guy i spoke to had a hissy fit....He asked where the articles were that mentioned the product and complained that he had fielded MANY calls in the last few days. He went on to say that the product was only available commercialy to contractors.
I think he was having a really crappy day.
Anyone know offhahnd where to find it in the San Diego County/Oceanside area?
thanks

Just got off the phone again with a local roofing products wholesaler, he was not familiar with the 703, but suggested products from this manufacurer:
http://www.atlasroofing.com/commercial_polyiso/index.asp
anyone familiar with this? It's called Polyiso and a 4 by 8 sheet of the 11/2 inch costs 14.00
also available in 2 inch and 3 inch.

sorry to be a pest here but....
I just got off the phone with another roofing supplier. She knew of, and had sold the OC 703 board. They were no longer dealers of the OC products but she said the equivelent board can be purchased from this manufacturer :
http://www.johnsmanville.com/insulation/products/index_oem_acous.shtml
It's the spun glass mdel 814.
pricey , 8 bucks for a 2' by 4' sheet.

getting closer I suppose....

OIC!

I didn't realize that there were bass trap diagrams on the site. I was trying to look at the pictures of the room itself. Duh!?

Thanks a million, this will be a great help. It's rare that someone is this generous with their design...especially since it is now being sold for profit. I won't forget it!

Thanks,

Wil

I want to build a couple of those. I can't seem to be able to find 1/8" plywood anywhere. Can I use masonite as a substitute?

Pittsburgh, eh?

I think your best route would to buy a sheet of 1/4 inch thick plywood and a belt sander. Few hours, few sheets of sandpaper, and you are all set.

Yeah. Thats how they do it in Pittsburgh.... Very Happy

GG,

No, it has to be plywood. Keep looking because it's definitely available. You may have to try some larger lumber yards.

Johnny,

Luan is fine, but it really has to be 1/8th inch. Call around to other lumber yards in your area. Someone will have it. There are three places near me that carry 1/8th inch plywood.
