I've been on the phone all day looking for Owens Corning 703 or a equivalant, even rock wool board would be fine. Does anyone know of a source in the Chicago area. I only need a couple hundred sqaure feet. You would think someone is a city this size would be able to sell it to me retail. Several dealers I called only sold wholesale and would not even tell me if they stocked it.

I"m going to be driving though Indy next week so even a source there or Bloomington, Ind would be cool.

Thanks for any leads, Owens corning itself was a dead end.

For Owens Corning 703 board, call Addison Building Materials in Elk Grove Village. They can special order the 703 board for $105 for 96 sq. ft.

For Knauf board call Parker Products at 630-862-2618.

Thats $1.09 per square foot!!!!
I know the price of living is higher in Chicago than Cleveland, but that is VERY expensive. It is a bit more reasonable if its the 2" thickness, but that is still a heafty price.
703 or equiv 1"- $0.38, 2" $0.77 here.

Ofcourse, $1.09 a square foot is better than NONE, which is what is sounds like you have now.

Keep checking around, although it sounds like you have. I just did the math. If its $105 for 96 sq. feet there, you be better off driving into Cleveland (or Toledo, or wherever that is NOT Chicago) and buying it at $.40/sq. foot (total=$38 for 96 sq.ft.), drop 30 on gas, and save 40 bucks, which you can use to buy another 96 sq.ft. of 703! Very Happy

Oh, and you'd get to visit the ROCK AND ROLL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!!! Cool

Good Luck.

I agree, Addison Building Products is out of line with their pricing. They would have to special order the 703, which is why it is so expensive.

I haven't called Parker Products yet, but I'll try them today.

Hello Jeff,

I am interested in the 703 equivlent for 40 cents a sq ft. I payed $170.00$ for 160 sq ft.
This studio thing has me broke.
Do you know of or have a phone number/Address and name of the company/store where I could order some at a more reasonable
price.

Thank you,
Nick

I PM'd you.

I'm going to check with them Monday and verify and check about shipping it across this great land.

I'll let you, and the world or RO, know Monday.

I know this- shipping 24 pounds of it (96 sq.ft. of 1" 703 is 8 CUBIC feet, and weighs 24 lbs.) via FedEx to SanDiego from Cleveland is about $33. To Alabama- $25. Check around. I'll be the 703 broker for all my peeps here at RO. Atleast to a point.

Oh, sorry about the "PEEPS". I'm listening to my coworkers blasted RAP MUSIC!
Surprised

Jeff

I thought that price was pretty high myself. Was that unfaced or faced? I"m hoping to tighten up the sound in my drum area which is in a corner and has a low ceiling(under 7'). I have R-13 in there now behind burlap, but from what i have read it doesn't absorb as much in the lower frequencys. I am building a POLYCYLINDRICAL DIFFUSER in the corner, and then planning on treating the walls and ceiling with 703, i'm getting way to many reflections in that corner, but i have no where else to put the drums, the studio is small.

I looked into some 703 board about a month ago in Indianapolis. There is a place in Carmel (just north of Indianapolis) called Specialty Products (317) 780-6135. They had a 3 lb density fiberglass board in stock in 2" thickness - 2' x 4' panels when I called. It wasn't Owens Corning. They can order O/C if you prefer it. They quoted me .941/sq ft for the 2" stuff when I called. Price may change though. Call them first, it doesn't sound like they stock a bunch of it.

The Owens Corning rep for the Indiana area (and I think Illinois) is Ms. Roswitha Moertl. Her work ph# is (630) 351-5412. She can give you a list of people Owens Corning sells to in this area.

More info on 1" insulation board in the Chicago area:

Parker Products 630-862-2618 sells Knauf 1" board for 0.45 per sq. ft.

Specialty Products 630-350-7744 sells O.C. 703 board for 0.65 per sq.ft.

Does anybody know where to get 1/8" plywood? The Depot does not have it.

I know that home depot sells 1/8", it is possibly 1/32 smaller so try looking for 3/32. Any good lumber yard should carry it, possibly try Menards as well.
