Hi,
I've found a distributor of fiberglass down in El Paso.
Has anyone used this stuff?
Two products might work
duct board
and
insulation board
now that i look at the duct board, it seems a little weak.
I think the price on the 3lb 2" ins board is 1.50 per foot - is this reasonable?
thanks |

Sam,
When you look at the duct board - it is a different series of tests they give it than the acoustical boards.
However - Knauf manufactures a fine product that is very comparable with the Owens Corning product - and if it is easily available can be substituted with no problem.
We actually discussed this within the last couple weeks.
Happy Hunting

well...I just read another thread, you know, the betting deteriorating thread and i think knauf board was the material being discussed. I think I'll go half and half on faced and unfaced. Sorry to be a bother. |

I apologize if i gave you the impression that you were being a bother. That is not the case...... I mentioned the other thread just to reinforce what it was i was telling you.
I hope you have a great day. :p:
By the way - do you have a link to the deteriorating thread you just mentioned?

Hi Rod,
Actually we both posted at exactly the same time, so i read yours just as i had posted. If I had searched for knauf i would have found it before i posted.
my post may have been a bit confusing concerning that other thread
....betting about being able to hear the diff between 1 panel or the panel cut in half.
have a good one! |

I use Knauf 3# unfaced board and it's rockin'. It was easier for me to find and the acoustics i've learned how to build in this forum have been a godsend. |

You might want to check out John Manville fiberglass products too. As far as I know Owens, Knauff, and Manville all make there products to the same specs.
I got the Manville through a commercial insulation dealer . . . much cheaper than an acoustics company.
Hope this helps,
Mike |
