Due to the shape of my control room, the monitors are each pointed at high bass traps. Since it is generally accepted that you should put a mid/high absorber on the wall in the location that the monitor is aimed at, I have formulated an idea of how I want to suspend a covered piece of 703 in front of the high bass trap.

My question now is, will this 703 REFLECT bass frequencies back towards me, negating the effect of the high bass trap, or will the bass frequencies pass through the 703 and be ABSORBED by the high bass trap?

Thanks to all in advance, and if i'm being to vague, let me know and I'll go more into detail about the situation.

I'm pretty sure the lows will make it thru 703 unless you have a foot thick slab of it. And even if they don't make it thru, they'll make it around.

Good idea tho - just make sure the front panel isn't touching the 703 'sheet' you're adding.

Daniel,

As Kase explained, low frequencies will pass right through the 703 into the high bass trap. In fact, I just did the exact same thing. I wrapped four panels of 705 rigid fiberglass to place in front of four of my wood panel traps. I've mounted only one so far - the power outage kept me from Home Depot - but plan to do the rest this weekend.

I'll take photos and post them showing the mounting detail. But briefly, I glued and wrapped burlap around each panel. Then I took four long nails and put two into each side edge of the trap. Then I cut the heads off the nails and pushed the panels onto the nails. Unless we have an earthquake, they should stay in place.

I'm still not sure how I'll handle the two on the ceiling...

--Ethan

For the ceiling, how about screws and fender washers? That's what I've been using for my open-faced mid/high absorber screens. I use a black covering, so black screws and silver washers match. I just measure to be sure that they look nice and even.
