Sorry to horn in...

This is a pretty popular solution, and it will provide good isolation to/from the space above. But you give up height, and that is something I'm always trying to avoid. If this is for a critical monitoring space I'd probably lean in this direction.

For a recording space I LOVE this solution. I'd use the densest material the joist's will support, since mass really is your friend here. And I'd stuff the spaces with different materials, alternate different types of foam and rockwool, or different thicknesses of rockwool, or whatever. Makes for a very interesting room. The downside is that it can be too interesting, that is, you'll discover that the bass amp HAS to go HERE!

FWIW, here's what I'm going to try for my next control room - I'll run joists between the existing joists, so that there is maybe 1" or so from the bottom of the new joists to the bottom of the existing ones. The new joists are, necesarilly, attached to the new walls. Then I'll add RC and sheetrock to taste. It costs me a little height, but I think it should proved about the best isolation I can get in my situation. I'll also be angling the ceiling to control reflections around the console.

I can't wait to see if this works in practice<G>!

Are diffusors on the walls a good idea? I was looking at those metro fusors that are pretty cheap, and was wondering if they would get phucked up if they were hanging on the wall near where people work and move.
My ceilings (drum room) are now confirmed at 9ft, and I was really wanting it diffused, but I guess I'll settle for absorption since 9 foot apparently isnt high enough. I do use pretty low overheads though. The drum room will be 9 feet wide and about 14 feet deep. Should I just absorb the walls too, or get some diffusion going somwhere?

what about this... mixing absorption and some diffusion together over the drum kit? What about behind it? I hate this part of the job, I really do.
