I
just have to say that taking a Grace and plugging it into the mixer is a bit like putting a Masseratti engine into a Fiat (the French tried that once and called it a Citroen).
so from this statement im wondering? What is the best way for me to get my vocals in????????/??
My chain right now is [Mic] [pr-amp][mixer] then in the mixers insert 1/4 jack my compressor.....then I send the mixers output in to my a/d interface M-audio 2496.
what I fiqure is that some of you go straight into the interface from the pre-amp, or mic, pre-amp, compressor or some type of voice processor, then interface.........
run it inline bypass the mixer --and if your clipping turn down the output on the compressor--or you could also pe hitting the pre or the compressor to hard causeing distortion

The easiest way(Best? I don't know...) is to run your mic to your mic pre and then directly into your soundcard. Leave all inputs of the soundcard/software all the way UP. Regulate the mic volume with the knobs on the preamp - first adjust the input then the output(If it has both). Record everything "dry"(no effects at all) then add any needed effects later with the software or your(Rather more difficult to do) outboard boxes.
If you add ANY effects going in(Even a little bit) you'll be stuck with them.
If you MUST add anything going in, run mic to pre to the anything(outboard effects) to card - avoid the mixer. If you MUST go through the mixer, go through a line-in/out of the mixer(No volume control or EQ, etc.) then to the card.
Keep in mind that NO effects box(Or any other wirey gadget in the signal path) can help but add "things", likely "bad things" to the wonderful signal you should get from the fine preamp you have.
