In general I liked this, and also suspect from the sound that you were using a stereo pair of cardioids from the slight rise in the upper midrange.

While certain noises (stop changes, swellbox etc) are a matter of personal taste as to whether to remove or not, there are a few higher-pitched transient noises that cross the line IMO. Algorithmix reNOVator would make them disappear.

The playing is pleasantly compelling, esp in the last section!

Much editing on this?

Rich

Yeah I like this as well, but to me it sounds like a pair of omnis, from the LF extension. I would like slightly more room or some more/longer reverb but this is a minor complaint.

What is the mic technique?

Hi!!

The mic technique is ORTF stereo....

And i use Rode NT5 Shocked with Apogee's MiniMe.

Yes!! Sonarerec... I used Waves L3 UltraMaximizer just a little. Rolling Eyes
But hey!!I must do something to compensate my microphones Embarassed

Here is another piece from the same consert.
http://web.telia.com/~u92121686/musik/orgel/CH_M_Widor_Allegro_(nr_VI_op_42)-01.mp3

I'm thinking of to get me a pair of Microtech Gefell M 296.
This microphones and MiniMe must work very well together
ll'l hope Exclamation

Rich was spot on, well done. Those Rode's sound pretty good for cheap mics.

Not sure I believe the published FR plot for these mics though.

Basso, what room was it recorded in? Church, or concert hall? The reverb time is quite short.

It's recorded in Lulea cathedral in north sweden.

But we try to place the mic closer as usual.
So this is a experiment to find the best way to place
the microphones..

UGGHHhh....that's not easy Wink

According to legend the MG296 was suggested to MG as something similar in sound to the M50c.

The questiion I would ponder is whether to buy a mic with a colored top end or something more neutral such a DPA4006TL.

And unless you must operate on battery the DAV Broadhurst Gardens #1 is a steal at $700 (stereo!)

Another factor is how to get the mics high enough so you do not have to have them in the gallery. Without a boom it is almost impossible to get far enough away from an organ to get a proper blend when the mics are in the gallery.

In Europe you might be able to find one of the discontinued AKG booms with the VERY substantial base. Wish I could find one over here!

Rich

send me a mail on gunnar (dot) hellquist (at) bredband (dot) net with your phone number and I will call you in a few days time.

I have some mics that are mostly unused some weeks this summer and might want to travel to the north. Among them is my brand-new pair of M296-s.

I love this combination. I have sung the praises of the NT5 many times and I don't think it's just another cheapo wannabe mic.

David
The published frequency response for the NT5 is wrong, or else I have a very odd pair.

I also find the Mini-Me to be a nice little box, but I believe it has a slight tendency to add a little bit at the bottom end.

And this is a BAD thing with cardioids?

I suppose that depends on what you want to do with them. It's very slight anyhow.
