Are there any issues with service pack 2?

Nuendo 2 and RME drivers seem to be just fine with SP 2 on 2 different PC's. No issues, but this was done with a "Slipstreamed" copy of XP-Pro w/SP2 integrated (no "upgrade" - but a fresh install w/SP2 included on the OS Install Disc).

You can use a program called "nLite" to slipstream service packs, and to build HotFixes and Drivers into your OS Install CD!!! You can even disable services, etc before you ever install the OS. It is a free program, too! You simply copy your XP CD files to a folder, and the program goes through a guided GUI of what you want to add (SP2, Hotfixes, Drivers), and what you want to omit (Services, etc). Then it creates a new ISO image. You burn this new ISO with Nero, and re-install your OS "pre-tweaked, and pre-updated"! I have one for my DAW install (No nothing but SP2 and basic drivers), and one for my Everything install (with SP2 and some hotfixes).

I think Slipstreaming (or buying a XP CD w/SP-2 already on it) is an important step to a trouble free install. Others have done SP2 "upgrades" with mixed results.

IIRC, PT LE also works fine with SP2, but I have no experience with PT-LE/SP2.

Either way, I'd strongly recommend re-installing all of the programs after SP2 is installed for peace of mind and peace of DAW :p . The occasional "Fresh Install" is never a bad thing IMO.

The improved firewall and Pop-Up blocker are cool if you use them IMO. The Windows Firewall is all I need as I am behind a NAT router w/Firewall. Its already built into the OS, so why install a 3rd party firewall?

Next Cool

Nice write up Randy.

I've avoided SP2 so far on my DAWs but I haven't had any major issues on my other machines.

Thanks D! My Shuttle has been on SP2 since its "birth". Still not one crash... (Fingers crossed).

PS - I just picked up a used 1GHz Dell Laptop (for $270 Surprised a steal IMO), and it also has SP-2, and Nuendo appears to run fine on it, too! I'm now discovering the world of WiFi (and being able to edit my tom tracks at work is pretty cool Smile ) ...

Cool

Looks like you need to upgrade to PT-LE 6.9 and some special Interlok drivers to be 100% SP2 compatible. I'm still recommending fresh installs w/SP2 for serious users - but that's just little ol' me...

Cool

I don't know, I don't use Pro-Tools... That is just the info I got off of their site. I'd certainly hope going from 6.1 > 6.9 would be free.

Cool

I personally won't install XP SP2 unless it's a everyday i-net PC. On the point of upgrades versus clean installs I agree with Randyman that a clean install with a slipstreamed CD seems to be less troublesome than adding the upgrade after.

only problem we have seem with SP2 (only statered using it the last few months)

is with Tsacam products. the 1800 series are a no go with SP2.

RME, M-audio, Lynx, Presonus. Cubase, Nuendo, Samp, Sequoia, Sonar all seem fine.

Yeah, but they're useless products anyway Laughing

I did the fresh install with SP2 (OEM that way) and have had not one crash. Now, Sequoia V8 has caused some problems, but from what I can tell, it has absolutely nothing to do with SP2.

FWIW, I don't have any NIC or modem installed on this PC, so all internet updates must be manually done. I find this to be far more accurate b/c I go to microsoft.com and download what I want to. I don't take their add-on crap.

Hello,

every computer we ship goes out with SVP2 and the MS Firewire patch.

No problems reported by any customer yet.

Protools 6.4 must be updated to work with SVP2.

My best,

I have no problems with sp2 on my computer, anymore. On first try though all kinds of strange things happened. What I did was a fresh install from CD and then the latest upgrades from MS. Somehow if your computer has gone through several updates it will accrue a lot of extra stuff that is good to get rid off.
