studio project C1 just behind the bridge and an SM81 at 12 fret, 6 inches away on both mics. The Vocals were recorded at same time with a C1. The guitar was a Yamaha FG-401 |

Dude....this sounds really good. The only thing I hear is that the guitar either doesn't have enough hi-end or the vox have too much high mids.
When she starts getting loudy is sounds a little can-like.....but overall....awesome. Great job! |

Thanks art. I didnt EQ the guitar but yeah i can see that its a little dull . She played that song with out a pick. I think the "Can" sound is cuased by 2 things One is from hitting the compressor to hard. I need to pull back on the threshold and ratio a bit in that plugin and maybe automate the volume a bit ...easy fix.. The second is she backed of the mic a bit letting in more room sound.
I was so pleased with the mix cuz it only took 15 minutes. A couple listens, compressor and a little EQ bump around 200 hz on the vox, a reverb send, L3 on the master, and bounce. If only all songs and or projects could so easy. |

Sounds lovely. The reverb is nice to begin with but starts to sound similar to bathroom acoustics when she starts singing louder... maybe play round with the pre-delay and reverb length or something but with the reverb volume turned down so it dosen't swamp the mix. just my 2 cents. |

You may want to consider at least attempting the vocals seperately. It would allow you to treat the room acoustics specifically for the vocal. I think the 'can' effect is mostly room sound becoming more prominent when she backs away from the mic. The compression could certainly be highlighting it though. |

oh mr. architect..im way ahead of you. The first session i did with this young lady we did do the parts seperately until we got to this tune because she said her vocals really guide the tempo and feel of the song. But what we found out was that her perfomance and especially pitch was much better when she did both at the same time.(sadly) |

but perhaps i can treat the room a little and tell her not to back of the mic so much and jusst keep the gain relatively low on the pre and just do some volume automation.
thanks for the heads up. |

If you treat the reflections in the room she should be able to back off the mic without any ill effects. Its all in the balance. She has talent which gets you 80% there from the start. |
