Hi, have you ever noticed when recording distortioned guitars that sometimes little clicks appear every now and then but normally they are not appreciable in the whole song, but they still bother me a little bit, is there any way to reduce this? maybe more compression or something?

i am not the most experianced but i have had a problem similar before. do you punch a lot when you record guitars? if the wavs aren't matching perfectly where you recorded the the punch wont be crossfaded well and you will get a click and pop where the 2 wavs meet up. maybe this helped. then again i learn things everyday so someone mught correct me on this after i post.

You are describing what appears to be a digital overload "click"?

Most condenser microphones usually offer some kind of pad to help prevent overloading the onboard impedance converter/preamplifier but that usually sounds like you've turned up the car radio too loud, no clicks.

The "clicks" described sound like you're trying to purposefully overload the guitar while recording, which is not necessary! Pad the microphone (if you are using a condenser microphone) and/or switch in the pad for the microphone preamplifier (if you are using a dynamic microphone) and maybe crank up the gain for a proper record level, not to go over limit.

Click click click ouch!

but it's weird because these clicks come from the signal from my Electro Voice RE27, maybe it has something to do with the preamplifiers that come with the mic inputs from my Presonus Firepod, because I usually make very hot recordings with my TL Audio but they never overload, anyways I was wondering if maybe there was a way to correct this or reduce it in the mixing stage

Using Presonus Firepod you can get a click with even an extremely brief partial flash of the LEDs.
Put the Firepod in a shadow and make sure you don't ever see ANY flashes on it.

Why would you bother close recording distorted guitar with anything but a sm57??

Try TURNING DOWN - either lower the pre's on the Firepod or turn down the Guitar Amp !! Are you exceeding the max SPL of the mic? Why push it so hot on the recording when you're in the digital realm!? You can always boost it to taste later if it needs it.

Aside from that, you may need to make cpu usage adjustments to your ASIO driver and buffers.

If you're using Firewire to the Firepod, Have you done the SIDSpeed fix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 ?
Have you updated your Presonus Firepod Firmware and driver from the Presonus site?
