I'm working on a business plan to create a record label, and I have a lot of stuff figured out, priced and planned, but I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm a bit confused. Are you building a recording studio or starting a record label? |

I should probably not say anything, but I can't resist the temptation. If you want opinions about what you've forgotten, you need to provide info, we can't see inside your brain.
A record label? You mean like Sony? Here in Taiwan the big company's spend around 1,000,000 US for one CD: 250,000 for the production and 750,000 for initial marketing - well so I've heard. So if you wanna go from zero to being competition for those people, you better be rich and have lots of passion, because you ain't gonna make money for a looooooong time. If you just want to screw about, buy a mac with garageband and work up from there. You may also consider an education in your new field of interest PRIOR to going into business.
Just suggestions |

true, we can't read your mind.
but i think he wants to make a studio/label thing where he finds them, offers them a deal and then records them. and im sure he's not trying to compete with sony and all them, or atleast not innitially. |

i'm working on a little label, not one that would compete with sony. i'll be recording the artists and then have the cds produced. my list of items isn't on me at the present, but i was really just looking for ideas anyone might have of things i'll need, particularly things i probably don't know about. i know a lot of work and space needs to go into this, but i'm so amateur that i don't know how much. any advice would be much appreciated. i've got office supplies and basic recording necesseties down, but i'm sure i'm missing some things. i'm especially shakey on the space thing. is a few thousand feet enough? i'll need office space, recording space, rehearsal space...
thanks for any help... |
