I've been reading this website for two weeks now and I must say that I wish I'd known about this place long ago.
My Daughter has been reading as well and she's impressing me with the information she's gleaned here and she's actually applying her ideas in the Control Room now.
I think her new understanding as concerns compression impresses me the most. The Digital systems and understanding them will be our focus for some time to come.

That's OK. Besides, I'm old enough to be your.....MCI's first owner! I had a love/hate relationship with my MCI; I loved it , but my first wife hated it!
She was a real good dressmaker, and so I taught her to solder like she sewed. All those relay sockets with cold solder joints, so little time. I really don't miss the analog recorders anymore. The smell of burning brake shoes and arcing of relays, the sight and sounds of a gone-beserk logic board that put the reels in rewind at Mach3 speeds (and then dumped the full reel of 2" tape all over the floor!) I think that EVERYBODY should cut their teeth on a machine like that. It makes you a stronger, better person.... Laughing

Thata' girl Rosemary! You go girl! I think you'll bring a new definition to the term " shotgun wedding"? You've got to love those old analog MCI machines! Back in the 1980s, I purchased Curtis Mayfield's old 16 track MCI JH 10. What a dog! But it worked most of the time. It was extremely funny when the take up motor started belching smoke! I switched off the machine thinking I would surely have to purchase a new take up motor? But when I turned the machine back on, the take up motor continued to work and never smoked again! Unfortunately it was too big to get into my then " bedroom control room" and so it was tethered with 30 foot-long cables to the living room. Eventually I had to get rid of that machine because it looked awful in the living room!

Biting the bullet

Rosemary, I really love your comment about how the tape smelled! LOL! In my younger days, I liked the smell of the Scotch magnetic tapes over the Ampex or Agfa tapes! LOL I think it's amazing that a kid of your age describes your intimate affair with the tape machine like I had at your age! LOL you are too funny girl!
