As I have posted many times, I shoot little video and I aquired 4 JVC cameras. Because I don't do a lot of video, I hesitate investing much in this as my main income is audio. These JVC cameras weigh around 25 lbs and trying to find tripods that will support that much weight, without a large investment seems impossible. Anyone know of some reasonably priced tripods that won't break the bank?

Try B&H, both their online and "real" catalog. They often have closeouts and overstocks for cheap. I've got four of their "Budget" tripods (MSE was one of them) that are darn nice, for about $135 each.

After a point, though, there's no other recourse than just spending the $$ and getting a good, solid tripod. We're finding that out with HD and some location work with distant shots, etc. Even the tiniest of jitter and movement can ruin a shot.

This place sometimes has great deals on tripods. The had 4 Bogen tripods with wheeled dollies for less than $100 each. http://www.hgrindustrialsurplus.com/ but you have to look at their site and buy when they become available. This is all surplus and most of it is in very good shape. They will ship to you if needed.

Best of Luck!

I just went to that surplus site, did a search, but turned up no tripods. Very interesting site though. It's now bookmarked.

They come and go with some regularity so it is important to check the site on a weekly basis.

Sometimes they mislabel things like calling a tripod a collapsible stand which you have to get use to.

The called a power supply a variable volt meter but I think you get the idea. Nice people to do business with.

Just saw a very sickening sight. Three really nice large aluminum tripods with heads in the middle of I-480 completely smashed and mangled. I guess someone must have lost them off their remote van and they were subsequently run over by a very large truck. I was tempted to stop and get them off the road but the traffic was way too heavy. I hate to see equipment ruined. I am sure who ever lost them is upset and some insurance agency is now being charged for their loss.

FWIW

You have to wonder if there was anything at all salvagable on them.

I got those tripods and am happy to report that they are very supportive of the 25 pound cameras
