I extremely miss a accurate handson console for Plugins .

I am searching for a intelligent controller where I can touch my mastering chain .

Now I work a lot with Wavelab and UAD, Waves, and Nomad Factory,…

How do the softwareguy`s work on there plugins,,,, or do you all ride the mouse.

I take it you mean a MIDI/USB controller with knobs, sliders, etc...

There are programmable controllers available however, it all depends on each plugin's manufacturer and their MIDI implementation.

Be that as it may, each manufacturer (Waves, U-Audio, etc...) has a different implementation (if any) which would force you to continously switch between banks. For example: let's say you programmed a knob to control the Renaissance Compressor THRESHOLD and now you want to adjust a UAD LIMITER's threshold. Well, that knob may or may NOT control the same parameter on the UAD plugin so, you'd have to switch to another bank that had been programmed for the UAD card. In the end it may get confusing and maybe even time consuming.

Do you find the mouse too difficult or too slow to use?

i`ve tryed it in Cubase SX in combination with the Behringer BCR2000.

It works nice and i could turn all parameters i have adjusted to the BCR.

some big uncoolness

1. you have to built a setup for special slot
Slot 1...EQ Slot 2....Comp Slot 3....Limiter
Controller x for Slot 1.... and so on
if you want change EQ and Comp or add an other eq the setup will be turnaround and have to be new adjusted in the comunication with the BCR. SUXX

2. You have no parameters displayed.

The best would be a Picture of the Pluginsetup with hardware midicontrollerknobs on it .

have someone tryed the mackie controll or the new Novation SL ?

Do you find the mouse too difficult or too slow to use?
---------------------
You could not concentrate on the sound because you have to look on the screen and setup the parameter, its better for me to do this in handwork

When i tryed this SX BCR Version i had a better Soundresult than with the mouse. But its really not ideal this combination

best regards
Thomas

I tried the Mackie with Samplitude. It worked somewhat but the latency was bad and if you wanted to bring up or take down more than one fader at a time the system balked and would bring up each fader over time but not at the time you wanted it brought up. Also the LED write strips some times worked sometimes not. I contacted Mackie and they referred me to to Magix and Magix told me it was a problem with the Mackie. I think it all has to do with the way the unit communicates. MIDI is not the fastest when it comes to multiple commands. I have ordered the fader port from Presounus and we will have to see how that works out. I worked on some Fairlight consoles and they use 100BaseT for their communication with the host and it is very easy to do multiple things and have the software follow along with zero latency. I think the hardware controller/software interface is the one MAJOR problem that all DAWs suffer from and it needs to be addressed. ProTools seems to have good luck with their large controllers although I have never used one people who do use them say the work very well but for 10s of thousands of dollars I would assume they would have to be good.

Hope this helps

Right, CUBASE is a different type of program and it's NOT for mastering, really.

I use several MIDI controllers (like X-sessions, etc...) in LOGIC PRO to control certain plugins/instruments functions. However, I have found the mouse to be very efficient for my work in Wavelab.
