I saw this in I think Bobs site but can't find it now.
I would like to put a couch 38% off my rear wall.
Can someone comment on the effect it will create?
Room is 19x32.
Thanks
LH

Larry,

> I would like to put a couch 38% off my rear wall. <

That's one of the best places for a listener, but there will still be peaks and deep nulls. The only way to minimize the effect is to line the wall and wall-ceiling corner with bass traps. If you'd like to see how to determine the affected frequencies, see this short article on my company's web site:

www.realtraps.com/sbirlbir.htm

You can download a program (DOS/Windows) there that displays all the frequencies based on the distance or vice versa.

The really fun one used to be
http://www.auralex.com/savant/couches.pdf
Which according to the also missing www.auralex.com/literature/acoustology_104.pdf had been moved to the also missing http://www.auralex.com/couches.pdf

There's absorption coefficients for recliners here

I think a couch in the control room is an absolute necessity? After all, after 16 hours of recording and mixing, where else are you going to sleep?? Without it, the effects could be disastrous!

Not sure why my psychiatrist has one in the office??

Folks,

> The really fun one used to be http://www.auralex.com/savant/couches.pdf <

I have that PDF saved locally on my hard drive. I can't imagine Jeff Szymanski would mind since he posted the test here initially. So if anyone wants a copy email me from my company's web site. I'll tell you the short answer here: Even two large stuffed couches did not make a whole lot of improvement.

Remy,
I have a 10x10 room in another part of the building with a futon and TV.

It's off limits to everyone but my wife and I.
Since this is a new build we haven't had a chance to use it together yet!
Larry
