Hello all
Long time no see, im sorry i have been off building my new recording studio!!! Its gonna be mostly a post facility with some music production. I just finished floating the floor, moved speakers around, and just sent for an auralex kit and, just as my luck would have it, owens corning has an office across the street from our building. i'm able to get rf 4111 which i have seen and it is identical to the 705( as the salesperson has also assured me will do the job). So guys i just have one teeny weeny question which i guess is just to decide which aproach to take: can i just wrap my rigid fibreglass in fabric and mount them in designated first reflection/corners/walls.....or should i look into making panel traps out of them??? what is the big difference between them besides that the plywood on panels traps reflects high frequencies back into the room? my room doesnt audibly have huge issues, but it definitely has bass problems. also any ideas towards wall mounting would be greatly apreciated.
Hey david french i could really use those test tones now, i apreciate the help!!! i also promise to post pictures when i'm done to show you the finished product Wink thanks guys this entire project is based on your advice and data. i'm already working here and doing things its great. allright talk to you soon take care
A.

Auxsam,

Broadband treatment is typically best.

Panel traps are defined are narrow band absorption utilities.
Fabric wrapped (OC703) as you sort of mentioned, will affect a greater range of frequencies and will be likely be more useful should you decide you want to use them for other things (gobos, vocal booth panels, etc)
They also weigh less that wood panel traps and are more portable.

Fabric wrapped 703 is just about the best thing most DIY'er come across and use. Rockwool works well to. OC703 is half the cost of 705 and performs better over a broader spectrum.

As for wrapping your acoustic medium in fabric and using this to treat a multitude of potential problems, I give that approach my biggest thumbs up.

Cheers,

Joel,

Thanks on the tips, i think thats the way i'll be going. it was a bit of a hassle to create panel traps and as i mentiones earlier, im really having issues with bass frequencies so a broadband absorber would make more sense.
Hey, ive heard the frequencies need to pass through the absorber so a gap needs to be between the wall and the absorber. what happens when the absorber is mounted directly on the wall, would it reflect some frequencies, absorb other or just reflect all of them?
