I consider myself to be a musician but I could not make a solid drum track if I had a set in front of me. At the same time I need a solid drum track to develop my demos further, so I turned to BFD.

Here is my issue. I have been ending up with what I think is a well crafted song but is in dire need of some drums. I am having trouble editing midi notes and forming them into an audible representation of what I hear in my head. Everything starts to get jumbled up and I get frustrated with it and have put it down.

If you have had success in dealing with such things I would like to first congratulate you, and then ask if you would impart your wisdom to me.

Thanks

I've used BFD on a couple of my tracks, without any major difficulty. It all really depends on what MIDI editor you are using.

Well? Which one? Are you working in Cubase, Logic, PT? Any other one?

I did everything in PT (not the best midi editor around) and I found that it's much easier using the copy and paste tool, than drawing everything out. After that I just go in and add any hits, cymbal hits or edits, where necessary.

This may sound a bit selfish because it's what I do... but you might consider hiring a professional drummer to lay live drums to your existing tracks. It doesn't cost as much as you think and it saves many headaches. Besides myself, here's a link to someone I consider quite effective.

Hey Tim, thanks for the offer but there are many different reasons as to why such things are not feasable for me...at least at the moment. I am somewhat traditional in the fact that I would rather play a physical instrument as opposed to some digital "sorta sounds like the real thing." Or if I am unable to for whatever reason, my second choice would be to hire someone to do it. I actually have a friend who is a phenomenal drummer who would do it for free, but due to geographical limitations is unable to. I have enough pre's (Cool to get a decent drum sound for a demo, but the other issue is those expensive little things called microphones. Oh yeah and the everpresent time/money issue. So all that is to say that my hand is kind of forced to edit midi notes at the moment. However I will keep you in mind for when these issues are resolved. Until then...

Happy Tracking,

EZ
