Hey guys, I am doing this as a hobbie and not a job, so I am learning. but I have a song tracked and somewhat mixed, but I would like some advice on it. It is going to be sent to a contest for work (I work for Starbucks, and 15 songs from starbucks workers will be played everyday in the stores) can someone give me some advice on the mix, and what I should do.
The song is listed here http://www.savefile.com/files/190879
or http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=536930 it is called Out Of My Hands
Thanks so much for your help

Too much low-mids and not enough bass frequencies. and in the chorus, everything kind of just blends together and it is hard to differenciate vocals from guitar and cymbals and stuff. Too much mid... |

I think a lot of EQ'ing could be done. Take the low mid out of the vocals and the guitar. That will make things stick out more. For the most part you have levels set pretty close. The vocals are a little quiet, but you gotta fix that with eq first then turn it up a little. The biggest problem with your mix is that it needs EQ'ing. |

yeah, these guys covered the basic needs of it. You should probably warm up the vocals a little bit too after EQ...a nice reverb with pre-delay could smooth it out. Consider double tracking them too or adding a harmony part to them. Then use a nice overall compressor on it, like one of the waves. |
