I think there was a reason that it stopped at ....13. Maybe no one wants to carry it past that particular #. Maybe it's just that the others looked at these and felt embarassed that "all" they had was some silly DPA's... |

SCOOOOORE!!!!
Snagged an RCA 44B, great cosmetic shape, unknown working condition, with what appears to the original 2 conductor (button) connector/cable for under $270!!!
Man, am I one HAPPY fella!!!
Gonna' look up how to re-wire for XLR and balance the thing... if it looks like too much of a PITA to get working, it'll still probably worth it to send to Wes at AEA isn't it?
Been searching for one of these dudes' for like 3 years... that I could afford. WOW!!!
Any ball park idea what Wes charges to completely refurb a 44B?

Hey MadMax..........
Where I rent equipment. They get new ribbon put in mic's at..........................................
Talking Dog Transducer Company, He performs Mods on Pre's and Ribbon mic's. I would hate to say what I thought it would cost. It's not cheap, I'm sure you no. I can find out more info if needed.
I got the use of a AEA R44C for the next 5 days!!!!!! SWEET
Along with a A-Designs MP-1 . Also a Buzz ARC1.1 that I'm going to try.
Going to Nastyville to pick them up Saturday.
Peace..........................Scoobie |

OK, my low-end mic locker...
SM57 (2)
AT2020 (2)
MXL 603 (2)
MXL 2001 (2)
CAD (can't remember the model, some "stage condensor" vocal mic, x2)

In the near future, an AT4050 or something like it, and an MD421...time to start getting some big boy toys.

Just a suggestion: could we also include what we tend to record - I think that would make this thread even more useful...
As for me, I work with about 40% classical, 30% jazz, 30% rock... I have included my most common usage - I'd love to have suggestions for uses I don't have listed!
AKG C414TLII x2: vox, overheads, stereo
AT 8533 x3 (clip-on mic): horns, toms
AT 4049 x2: stereo
AT 4051 x2: stereo
3035: ?
Earthworks QTC-1 (omnis, matched pair): stereo
Earthworks SRO (omni): center mic in Decca tree
Earthworks SR71 x2: stereo, guitar amps
Beyer M500N: piano spot mic
EV RE20: kick
Crown PZM6D: inside piano lid (closed)
Neumann U87 x2 (from the 70's): solo vox, choirs
Neumann SM69 (from the 70's also - stereo mic): stereo, choirs
Neumann KM84: acoustic guitar, strings
Neumann KM184: acoustic guitar, strings
Shure SM58 x4: live solo vocal
Shure SM57 x2: anything!
Shure BETA 87 (wireless): live lead vocal
Shure BETA 52: kick
Shure BETA 56: toms, snare, trombone |
