Hey im just starting out recording music in my home. but want to make my own beats aswell. and having not much music ability in playing instruments, this seems to be a problem. .
is there anyway i can get around this, with out have to learn to play a load of instuments, such as software that will allow me to create beats.
i have sonar 5 at the moment but am still learning how to use it.
Any advice, help or feedback would be much appericated.
Thankz

Sonar is recording/sequencing software and probably not the best thing for a beginner just interested in creating beats to jump into. You might want to start out using some drum VSTs. SonicCharge's MicroTonic is a killer drum machine and an engine for creating some amazing sounds.
You may also want to check out www.kvraudio.com and download some free drum machines. Once you've figured out how to use a drum machine, be it real or virtual (plug-in), you should have a better idea of how to use Sonar to create more intricate beats. |

Yeah Sonar is a great program, but not really a beat making program by it self. One fairly easy beat making program is Fruity Loops, and one that is slightly more complicated would be Reason.
But you can make due with Sonar as well, but will just need some VSTi/DXis, as pr0gr4m suggested.
Check out this site for some free VSTi/DXis:

Hope this helps. |

eh loc, i was in your shoes not too long ago, no instrument ability but just wanted to make beats. i was never into the computer thing so i started out with a fairly simple drum machine. (Zoom rhythm-trak 123). it set me back like $329.99 Canadian a few years ago. probly cheaper now. but its got all kinds of bass and drums and allows you create songs and get a basic knowledge of creating beats. Point is, i found once i learned the machine it gave me a way broader outlook on the creation process.
my advice to you if its a hip hop style of music you're getting at, a drum machine is a good place to start. then once you master it. add to your equipment, get a key board/synth or whatever. |

Fruity studio is a great way to start and learn music production if you’re a beginner, you can always progress to better software when you get to know what’s what.
Plus, Fruity studio comes with samples and instruments built in to get you started, some people say it’s a cheap newbie software, but who cares as long as you’re making that music?
I use it to make music and you can always add more vst’s and samples to it at a later date. |

you could also check out music production packages that have videos and tutorials. Theres supposed be a really good one that you can get for about $30 to $40
http://fearon.musicpro.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=FEAR3
It shows both software and hardware so it shows you both sides of production |

almost a year late guys. I guess late info is better than no info...at least in some cases. |
