Dear friends

I recently heard about a possibly interesting reverb device called "Quantec Yardstick 2492". This is obviously a completely new device (which might be the reason why I cannot find a lot of information about it).

My questions:

- What do you think about Quantec in general?
- Is anybody experienced with either the older devices or the newly released ones?
- What would you say if you compare Quantec with the flagships from Lexicon and TC (and maybe others)?

Every opinion is appreciated!
Take care...
Sascha

Back in 1991, I had gotten a used Quantec Room Simulator. It was a pretty cool device for its vintage. Very clean reverbs. Nice trails. I needed to find more information on the unit and was told to contact Steven St. Croix-Marshall, who practically lives in my neighborhood. Although Steven St. Croix-Marshall, who was one of the United States distributors for these units, didn't believe that the Germans did reverb very well.... ???Right.....So he wrote new algorithms that you could purchase from him which were of course "better" than the stock algorithms. I knew Steven and although his reverb's might have a sounded nice, I like the way Germans do reverb. So I didn't purchase his rather expensive algorithms. Not sure how you identified the difference anymore on the display, as I sold my unit to Bob Hodus, for $5, 000, a few months after I got the unit. Great reverb but I wasn't all that concerned about it. I like my Lexicons and found them totally adequate for my purposes.

Not familiar with the unit you indicate but Quantec was a high-end reverb processor that they manufactured. Not sure if it's really the same company anymore or not? Cool stuff like Eventied Clockworks vintage.

Quantec no more

The Quantec reverb is not really new. In the begining, there were only a handful of original high end digital reverbs and reverb designers. Quantec was one of them. The current or last Quantec Yardstick reverb I remember doesn't even come with A/D or D/A conveters. Digital only. As to the sound, you would need to hear it as it is unique. It is different than the usual high end Lexicon and TC reverb sound. I think it is closer to sounding like the Eventide 2016 reverb than Lexicon or TC.

Thank you very much for your answers!
I heard about the quite legendary Quantec QRS, but I was wondering if anybody knows something about the new yardstick I mentioned.

Obviously nowbody knows anything, however, everybody is talking about the not yet released Bricasti reverb for years! It will be released soon! But "soon" seems to be quite a relative term... And I assume one of the main reasons for Bricasti's publicity is the involvement of a former Lexicon guy. No matter that he has been just a marketing guy of Lexicon; "Lex sells"...

Take care,
Sascha

I too am looking forward to the new Bricasti. I sure was impressed with what I heard back at AES SF last year.
