Bass trapping with a door at the corner of room?

My room is a bit odd, as you can see in this picture:

The door is at the front/right corner from where I sit, and corners are where you'd usually put bass traps. So do I close that door every time I'm in the studio and then hang up a bass trap? That could get tedious.

Then there's that short hall way right in front of me that leads to the bathroom. What to do about that?

And then the corner on the left (where the bookshelf is). I suppose I need to move that shelf out and put a bass trap there?

Another quick question--see how my listening position is more to the left of the middle than at the exact middle? Is this a big nono, or I can take care of it by having panels places on either side and my stereo imaging will still be ok?

Make sure it's in the middle of the speakers.

(You might want to get some cable ties and group your cables together. It helps.)

What I meant was, the left speaker is a lot closer to the left wall than the right speaker is to the right wall. The left speaker is roughly 2 feet away from the left wall, and the right speaker is roughly 5 feet away from the right wall. The first photo demonstrates that very clearly.

The walls and speaker distance are most likely of little concern as the speakers are sitting on a reflecting buffet, so to speak:) The table and everything in between the speakers and your ears gets first shot at causing reflections.\

So what would you advise? I really would like to make the room as good as I can, despite it's just a room in a rented apartment. I just plopped down a lot of money for a pair of Klein + Hummel 300 monitors, so I'm pretty serious about getting the most out of this room.

I'm very confused. What's wrong with the photos? I took those myself, and then did the writing/drawing on top in Photoshop--so it's easier to read the dimensions/layout of the room.

I don't see why anyone would post fake/untrue photos when asking for acoustic treatment help. I mean, what would be the motivation?

I just bought a pair of Klein + Hummel 300D's, and it's a very important purchase for me, so I'm dead serious about treating my room so I can get the most out of the K+H's.

BTW, I was told by my landlady that I can't touch the ceiling at all--something about asbestos. I guess I can only mount corner traps to the walls then. Is not being able to touch the ceiling a kiss of death for treating the room?

Not necessarily.

Touching it and releasing that asbestos might be, though.

Best thing you can do especially for the new monitors is make sure they are placed properly, and make sure your room is traeated with bass traps. I have been paying with my room non stop for the last 6 months and am still not done.

Invest in some proper stands- possibly ones that are adjustable for height, or at least understand how high your ears will be, and where they are in relation to the hieght of tweeter and ceiling. Read up on these forums in regards to speaker placement- triangle listening position, peaks and nulls, room modes, 38% listening position, etc. Between this forum and gearslutz you will find a ton of info. In regards to centering everything in the room (eg- desk placed dead center) I have read conflicting views. Somes say perfect symmetry is a no no.

And probably the last thing you want to do is spend more money, but if you really want to optimize that room, and hear everything those monitors have to offer you need to invest some time, and/or money into proper treatment, traps, etc.
