This might be a stupid question, but still...

I am using Cubase 4 on a PC. At the moment I`m using a MOTU mkII soundcard but I want to upgrade to a Lynx Aurora16.

So I`m wondering.. How do you connect it to the computer?

U need to have somekind of PCI interface right? (Or am I way of?)
Can anybody give some guidance?
On my computer I have 1 avaiable PCI slot and 2 available PCIe slots. Will this be enough?

I have been looking through all of these pages but I am kind confused. This one for instance:

Does this one go into the back of the Aurora? So then I can connect it to the computer with a normal firewirecable?

That is not correct.

To hook up the Lynx to your computer you have a few options.

1 - purchase the AES 16 card ( or the similar card by RME) and transfer the data that way (this is PCI OR PCIe)

2 - Purchase the LT Firewire card and install it in your Lynx and move the data that way.

3 - purchase the LT ADAT card and install it in your Lynx and use any brand of soundcard with ADAT Lightpipe inputs on it.

IMO...the most flexible and powerful option is option with AES16. It opens up a few extra features that way.

FYI...THE AES16 sounds VERY nice and is well worth the money.

Cheers -
J

I still got some questions concerning the Aurora. It says in the brochure that it supports both +4db and -10db on the inputs. Does that mean that if I want to make a live recording with the aurora, I can use line out from the FOH mixer and connect them directly to the aurora? (Using a 25pin sub with jackplugs?)

Yes, one would hope so, but it depends on what mixer you have. You need the channel direct outs, which on some mixers are +4dBu balanced outs, on others they are unbalanced at +4dBu, -2dBu or some other level. On many mixers, the only way to achieve a direct out from a channel is to use the insert jacks with a T-R connection to maintain signal to the rest of the mixer. The Aurora will cope with any of these connections when set for +4dBu, even though the digitized signal may be rather small in some cases.

Question for Jeremy - You get the extra control features with the AES16 card for the Aurora, but why should it sound any different from connecting via FireWire or ADAT lightpipe?
