It's not bad, sonically. I think that with some EQ it gets better.

I put an HPF starting at 150Hz, with a 3dB dip at 400Hz, and that seemed to clean it up a good bit.

I'm not the best one to talk to around these parts when it comes to recordings of this nature (Dave French and Jeremy Cucco are light years ahead of me), but these EQ points worked for me.

I like the breadth of the stereo image.

Listening to the "documentary" version right now.

The balance is good overall. My biggest gripes are that it seems a bit off-balance. I'm guessing the mics were directional mics as I seem to be getting one and only one upper tenor coming out at about here: (and he occassionally has a hard time getting to pitch...)

bbbbbtTtbbbbbbCbbbbbbbbbttbbb

b=bass voice
T=strong Tenor voice
t=faint images of tenor
C=Center of the sound field

I would also have done a slight HPF - perhaps 6-12dB/Octave at 85 Hz...

Listening now to the reverb version - I do like this one a little better. Some of the L/R issues seem to be better off here (I just looked at the meters - they bear this out as well).

In all, this isn't bad. I don't hear a lot of crunchiness to the sound (a sound I associate with condenser mics getting too close to a choir).

I didn't try EQing as Bent did, but I suspect his 400Hz cut is smacking that Tenor down a bit and evening it out.

Overall, you should be pleased with this mix.

Hi all

Thanks for the indepth replies

The choir was about 45 (almost) seniors
I had 2 oktava mk012omni on either side of the altar (due to sightline limitations), so in effect a ultra wide AB at 1.5 metre (5 ft.). The choir is at 3m (10ft) behind the altar in a semicircle.
I also had an ortf oktava mk012card in the church, first bench to the left. These room mics are 80% of what you hear in the first link. Unfortunately they also picked up a lot of coughing, sneezing, and geneal people noise, too much, so I decided to try a mix with only the front AB mics.
This is the second link. I panned the AB mics inward and also reduced the width using software.
The verb is a vst: glaceverb

The one tenor being too loud is something the choir is used to Wink

I will now retweak the second version for duplication.

Thanks & Cheers
